I collected Wendy, by Alexander. I love all 8 inch Toddler dolls. Muffie was a great competitor to Ginny. Ginny dolls costumes were a cottage industry. Their costumes were not factory made. They were all made by women in their homes. Your Wendy has on a Ginger outfit. Alexander used square snaps, and sometimes grommets. Virga had 2 dolls, one was a bit more pricey. Their dresses were mail order, and were $1.00,-$1.75, and the more expensive style dolls had better wigs, and better quality fabrics and trims, costing $1.50-$2.50 for each costume, that all had matching socks, shoes and hats. What a great haul!

You make it look so easy... I know half is due to editing. My problem just became that the old string fell into the legs where I can't even see it, never mind grab it even with hemostats or pliers >.> I've been at it around 5 hours and counting, if you include figuring out how to get scissors in close enough to take the limbs off in the first place
@AgainstDollOdds5 ай бұрын
Oh gosh, I have this so sped up. It took at least 45 minutes just to pull everything out of the limbs, maybe an hour. Have you heated the limbs? If not, put them in a heating pad for about 20 minutes on high. Once they're squishy it's WAY easier to get your tools in through that small opening and pull the junk out. You also may need to shake the limb a bit while upside down to dislodge anything that's stuck down towards the foot, and/or reach blindly with your hemostats to try to grab it.

Wrap the joints in a heating pad for about 20 minutes. This will soften the opening so it will make it easier to to remove the parts. The metal parts can be brought at a hardware store in the plumbing department. These are crimped down with an electric wire striper.

Great video. I have two magic attic dolls that I need to restring and this lesson really helped. Can you tell me where you get the stringing cord from? Thank you so much.
@AgainstDollOdds Жыл бұрын
I used the same stuff I use to restring AG. I've had to find a new supplier because the 4mm cord I used to buy is no longer available, and I swear all the "4mm" I have tried since has been smaller diameter and not as strong. Most recently I got some 3/16" bungee shock cord on Amazon, which looks the right size, but I haven't tried it out yet.

I don’t have any yet but I will be on the lookout. I have recently started my own KZbin doll channel too! Wow!!!! I never know there were signed Addy Dolls I thought only the white body dolls were signed. Congratulations on your find and I can't wait to see her restored. Thank You for sharing that Addy doll with us.
@AgainstDollOdds Жыл бұрын
This one was signed by the author, so probably at a book signing event, but there actually are Addy (and Felicity!) dolls that were numbered and signed by Pleasant! Addy is much harder to find than the white body dolls though, as I think there were fewer signed. There was a #1 Addy who sold at auctions a few years ago - you'll find her if you Google "#1 signed Addy."

Beautiful real treasure you have!!! I enjoy your intake on the Rachel Hoffman KZbin channel about American Girl Doll Values and Markings. I would like to learn more about the early edition Addy doll, but seem to not find any good information except from you and one other source on here. Is it possible that you can make a video identifying the difference between the 1st and the 2nd Addy dolls? As a new collector I am unsure of my current purchase of the Addy doll is a 1st or 2nd. For there are tags on the dolls dating 1986 with 148/16 mark, when it is said that Addy came out in 93. Do you know if that's a prototype Addy? Even seen her meet outfit with the 1986 tag. Once again if you have the time to make a video telling the different types from prototype ( if any ) to 1st and 2nd Addy dolls it would be wonderful and most helpful!!! If not its fine, I will still be watching now I know you have your own youtube channel. 😊😊😊
@AgainstDollOdds Жыл бұрын
Yes! I was actually thinking about that, that I need to do a video showing how to date Addy. I do plan on doing that, but it may not be right away. To answer your questions - the 1986 tag was used for a long time on meet dresses. First edition Felicity AND first edition Addy have 1986 tags on their dresses. There was an EXTREMELY short run of first edition Addy dolls that had 1986 clothing tags, boots with no metal grommets (just plain holes), and dark, well-defined eyebrows, in addition to the 148/16 neck stamp. It's also come to the collector community's attention fairly recently that these dolls also have two-toned stitching holding their limb cups to their torso fabric - you can see that on this Addy in the video. There was also what I think of as an early second run of Addy dolls (maybe edition 1.5?) that have all the features of a first edition, such as 1986 clothing tags, dark eyebrows, and two-toned stitching, but with metal grommets in their boots. According to a doll I've seen that had her original purchase receipt, by Christmas 1993 PC had started putting the grommets in Addy's boots, so that first edition run without grommets was VERY short. The next noticeable change starts in possibly early 1994 and onward. Addy's meet clothing tags start to say 1993, the two tone stitching goes away, and her eyebrows become more greenish and more smudgy, instead of the first edition bold dark brow with defined edges. Dolls 1994-1996 are difficult to date precisely, at least from what we know thus far. Mostly we look for one or more characteristics of the earliest Addys (dark/non-smudged brows, two-tone stitching, etc.) to determine how close they were to the first edition run. In about 1996, the 148/16 neck stamp phased out, leaving Pleasant Company with no numbers underneath. Addy dolls 1997-1999 tend to have super hard vinyl and eyes set closer together, often with astonishingly long dark lashes. In about 2000, Mattel started stamping a light alphanumeric code underneath the Pleasant Company stamp. I will try to do a video fairly soon showing these differences in Addy so you can see for yourself, but for now, if you have more questions always feel free to message me on IG or Facebook, or email me from my website!
