Please make sure that the correct tile cement is used on the tiles, as ordinary cement will not last long on fixing the tiles.

another great video. We just purchased our land in Hindang and would love to speak with you offline about so many things such as if you used an architect, engineer and if you are still pleased with your contractor. Not sure how to contact you offline though. I'll be in Hindang in November and would love to get together and buy you a beer.
@SouthernLeyteAndBeyond3 ай бұрын
Hi, you can contact me direct via email to [email protected] looked at a property in Hindang when we were looking around in early 2023 but decided on further South. My process was to find a lot within walking distance to a beach and same to the main highway if possible. I had an idea of what I wanted to build but really only the floorplan which is roughly based on a local house my sister-in-law lives in near Baybay City. In the local area I asked around for engineers and chose well I think. He suggested an architect in Cebu after I could not find one - who was interested. Another good choice. I passed the rough floorplan to the architect along with some ideas on the exterior. I like flat roofs so that was a key design point - better for Solar but I do not like concrete roofs.. Initially it was just 2 bedrooms and no pool. As my employer wanted me to continue working past my chosen leave date and I could work from Southern Leyte at the last moment we changed the design to 3 beds and added the pool. The engineer and I worked together every day with me on site every day. This is absolutely cricuial as even with the best local engineer they see things differently to a "westerner". I have seen many examples of the building being left to the wife to look after and every one has been a mess in the end. We finished the build in less than 6 months and it's solid as a rock and mostly exactly as envisaged. I'm more than happy to meet up when you come here in November. Come down for a day - it's roughly 1.5 hrs South to me from Hindang. You can look over and I can answer any questions on the house and I can introduce you to my engineer if you like. We can have lunch or dinner at our "local" which is run by an American expat and id=s a great place.

SO glad you poured the walls of your pool, and didn't use hollow blocks! I cringe every time I see HB being used for pool walls! They are NOT load bearing! Best of luck with the remainder of your build.

Before we started we looked at previous work our engineer had done and one of the pools he made - a lot more complicated than ours - so we knew how it was built.

@SouthernLeyteAndBeyond6 ай бұрын
Go for it! The choice we made was for a basic no-frills design rather than follow the fancy - to us anyway - local ideas. As they say - to each their own. Make sure you get a good engineer to supervise unless you are having an architect do it which is more expensive.

Our engineer is extremely good and he listens to me but more importantly the workers follow his instructions pretty much to the letter. The new mall could be more foreigner friendly but it's a step up on the other one. Still have to go to Ormoc or Tacloban for some stuff periodically.
