I haven't been able to find anything other than this game by googling "dactopindalism"; did they just make up a word for some fictional phrenology-esque practice, or is this a real thing that the Internet has failed to archive references to, perhaps because it is was misspelled (or because "they" don't want us to know)?

Doctor Grout is easily one of my three favorite characters in the whole game, which is quite an achievement given that he never appears onscreen. I really hope maybe he'll turn up in some ancillary work if the upcoming Bloodlines 2 ends up being successful, unlikely though this is in the current post-Gamergate climate of the struggle game industry.

10:04 "...dark whisperings of a *_macabre and formless_* menace, the approach of which portends an end, an end to all of this!" Wait a second. Ming Xiao killed Alistair Grout at Sebastian LaCroix's behest. Ming Xiao is a shapeshifter with Flesh Shintai. Her true form (if she even has a true form anymore)? A large, watery, *formless* blob which you can cut apart to turn into more blobs. And "macabre" means dead...or UNdead. Grout saw Ming Xiao coming and he knew who sent her to kill him! *_WHY HAVE I NEVER PICKED THIS UP BEFORE?_*

This reminds me strongly of The Great Divorce, where one of the ghosts in purgatory is lamenting that the art movement he was a part of would never have gone out of style if all its adherents hadn't died. When the protagonist points out that thats true of everything the artist ghost gets mad and insists that its different in his case.

Dr. Grout isnt the skeleton in the bed. If you unlock the door left and go through the maze, instead of going right through the dungeons, you will reach a point where you pass by many mannequins that 2 seconds later are all aranged facing you and right behind you. It takes mastery at both celerity and obfuscate to achieve that. He is still there, screwing around. He was the malkavian primogen, he knew they were coming for him as is evident from his recordings, he has auspex and dementation which means he sees it coming, he can hear and smell you through the walls and hears voices and has visions that warn him. He has celerity to move faster than the eye can see and obuscate which allow him to move around while invizible or take on the appearance of anyone. Theres no way he got ganked in his bed while watching "Friends". What about that "faustian bargain" he had to make ? With whom? Kuei-Jin ? Sabbat ? Inconu ? Lacroix's rivals ? We dont know. We know he was the malkavian primogen, and the primogen are the smarter vampires behind the princes of the Camarilla. And this one was the primogen who knew Lacroix was playing everyone and plotting with the Kuei-Jin.

There's also the long-standing theory involving skeleton in the bed. Even accepting the explanations that devs did not have to follow lore to the letter and no other vampire despite their age leaves even skeletal remains, it serves only as a proof the death was faked. By the standard established within game itself, no vampire leaves any evidence of it's passing, save for the ashes - and suddenly, Dr. Grout is the only one who left behind himself a skeleton. It would appear he struck a bargain - perhaps with the Kuei-Jin, since it was Ming Xiao who was hired by LaCroix to kill Dr. Grout. She allowed him to leave, and left behind a fake skeleton, knowing it'll be a young and inexperienced kindred who'd be sent to confirm the doctors death - so inexperienced they would be fooled by it and accept it as the obvious sign that doctor had died.

I cracked up at that part too. The entire monolog is just spectacular. This is why I always pick world building an story over graphics. Stuff like this is what makes the game feel alive an halve depth. Sure nice graphics are great and help make the game feel alive too but they cannot substitute for great dialog an story.

When it comes to 'the one he shall not name', I originally thought that Grout's killer was Grunfeld Bach. I then thought through Grout's initial descriptions of the "one powerful vampire" he was terrified of and thought it was Cain; but, no, Cain never held any political office in L.A.'s branch of the Camarilla - THAT was LaCroix.

Grout saw what Sebastian hid deep within. The madness of being surrounded by enemies and power to take them on but a breath out of his grasp. With a hunger to do anything to obtain it.

@David Jones It's proven that many normal things throughout people's day such as stress, anxiety and more pernicious things like triggers are down to chemicals and physical connections in the brain. Psychology doesn't examine these. It examines the superficial things and tries, sometimes successfully but mostly not, to try and have the patient control these behaviors. Freud and Lacan were specifically focused on treatment within their own times without the technology to observe the brain in detail, and therefore tried to judge the nature of the mind through subconscious mental forces such as the Id (unattained desires) and et cetera. But if you look at case examples of Lacanian psychotherapy, you can tell that these were mostly just general concepts to apply in therapy. Almost like a rulebook for mental training. With advances in neuroscience, that will bring about the greatest successes in mental healthcare. If you want the school of 'psychology' that deals with this, look up Behaviorism.
