Reason for the tail is the low directional stability of the 229. The wing only gets its directional stability only from the sweep of the wing leading edges. That stability is proportional to the coefficient of lift. Hence increasing speed decreases stability and can lead to dutch roll and flat spin. The original used wing tip drag rudders to counter that. Another problem is adverse yaw when applying aileron to initiate a turn. The wing will swerve in the opposite direction making turning difficult/impossible. Again the fin counteracts this. Successful RC models of the 229 use a large amount of wing wash out to create a more bell shaped lift distribution. If done correctly that will eliminate the adverse yaw problem. As a tip you can move the CG forward to about 33 % of the length of the center. In case of this version with 1220mm wing span put the CG 200 mm behind the nose tip. Then you have to fly with ailerons trimmed 6 to 8 degree up which creates a more centered lift distribution and unloads the wing tips. Better yet to design a scratch build with proper twist in the outer wing and the CG that much forward. The more adventurous may experiment with a gyro connected to the EDF ESCs.

I don't mind the vertical transparent part; it's safety insurance for the modelling process used. A bit more work in the building and it would not be needed; no big deal.😊

Very very cool, but drivetrain not very durable. I do really like your motor pinion and spur gear V-teeth design thats neat, but straight teeth are stronger. Too bad you're not my next door neighbor I need someone to get me up to speed with 3D printers.
