What baffles me is either the sheer historical ignorance of someone as intelligent as Ghiren, or the academical change of commonplace historiographic views. Calling the 20th century Chuuseiki/中世紀? By what account is that possible? I can only try to rationalize a new historiography based on the concept of "UC"(Uchuuseiki/宇宙世紀) opposed to Chuuseiki/中世紀, disregarding the Renaissance and the Enlightenment as breaking point for a Space-based criterion. On the other hand, the evidently obvious meta/doylist explanation here is either Tomino or the scriptwriter is borrowing, verbatim, the Messiah of Dune scene where there's a similar, albeit way more self-conscious, exchange between Paul and Stilgar.

comparing Gihren to Hitler is an insult to the 20th century. Not even hitler matches the barbarism of the zabis. Half of humanity dead at Loum, the single greatest evil ever committed, but it is overshadowed by a cacophany of other evils. You basically have to go back to the Assyrian Empire to find equals to Ghiren. Ashurbanipal would probably be in the same league.

The Nazi Germany figurehead I think Giren is actually most similar to is Reinhardt Heydrich, who Hitler called "the man with the Iron Heart". Just to be all armchair psychologist, Hitler was more of an NPD manbaby while Heydrich (and Giren) are more ASPD/classic psychopath.
