Awesome tips. I will try that with my woolly nylon thread. Will BL sergers air thread clear monopoly thread or do I need to use the by pass method?
@babylocksewing6 күн бұрын
Good question! There are many different manufacturers of clear thread and there is no reason you cannot use it on your serger as long as you use it primarily in the loopers. One best practice in exploring using this type of thread in your serger is to first thread the machine the traditional way and then test on your fabric. If there is difficulty blowing your thread through you can certainly try using a bypass method.

0:37 WRONG WRONG WRONG My babylock zest machine had been jamming consistently and as a beginner it was so discouraging. I found a video today where they explain that you don’t want the bobbin thread to go clockwise as shown here but rather counterclockwise in a “p” shape, not a “q”. My machine isn’t jamming now. I can’t understand how the makers of the machine itself and a beginner friendly machine at that, would put out this wrong information. If you had the same issue as me this is the video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKKrgWl5rN-Ih9ksi=CJceuOqTACNtlgrR

Our instructions are not wrong. Notice how the woman in the video held the bobbin case in her hand and put the bobbin into the case with the case facing forward, not the bobbin facing forward. What she was doing was correct, we just filmed it from the side where it is easier to see and position the thread. One of the most common mistakes that causes machines to jam was covered at the beginning of the video, namely, rotating the hand wheel away from you instead of towards you. She did not talk about the second most important thing which is to make sure that you do not miss getting your thread placed over the take up lever. This ties in with not rotating your handwheel away from you. When you finish stitching you should make sure that your take up lever is in its highest position by rotating the handwheel towards you and that your thread drapes over that piece. When missed, your machine will jam every time which is likely what was happening to you to cause machine jamming.

@@babylocksewingI’m sorry but I see the woman in your video putting the thread in q shape (or clockwise). I was doing that as per your instructions and my machine kept jamming. I now follow the lady in the video I posted and place my bobbin in the p shape (counterclockwise) and my machine is no longer jamming. I never mentioned anything about rotating the wheel away from you, that was never my issue.

Just curious if people take the free lessons that all shops offer if you purchase a machine from them. I bought my Presto 2 from a shop in Greencastle , PA - I live in NC about 30 miles north of Charlotte. This shop offers free lessons which were 2 Saturdays - I drove several hundred miles to take these classes - best thing I’ve ever done!

I have a Presto 2 which is sort of similar to the Brilliant - and I just learned a few new things that I need to go back and reread my manual -again!!! I’m a quilter and tend to use just certain settings and forget how others work😁😁😁. Thanks so much!!! Oh, and I love my Presto 2!

Please explain the difference between topstitch needle and the needle you were using before.
@babylocksewing6 күн бұрын
Chris says: The needle used for overlock thread is a size 80/90 and the eye of the needle is designed for this thread type and weight or size. The Topstitch needle has a larger eye that accommodates heavier threads, 12wt. for example. The larger eye allows the thread to move through the eye without shredding the thread when stitching. This is why I always use a Topstitch needle when working with heavier and specialty threads on my serger and sewing machine.

What pens did you use to mark the lines?
@babylocksewing6 күн бұрын
Chris says: I used the Frixion pen (ball eraser or clicker). After marking the fabric and stitching use a dry iron to remove the markings. Please test on scrap fabric (same as project), marking and removing with iron. I have found on some fabrics the marking is removed but a white line remains. There is additional information online on how to handle this, simply enter “frixion pens how to remove the white line”.

I have a Presto II which I purchased in March 2022! I love this machine - it’s reasonably priced but has most of any bells and whistles that a quilter/sewer could want! It does not do hooped machine embroidery but I did t need nir want that as I have two other machines that can do that! I am very impressed with Baby Lock products!

I own a Presto II and out of curiosity I tried the pre-wound bobbins (cotton thread) earlier this year. They work perfectly. I inky used the white cotton thread ones as I close to almost 100% sew with a light grey (I’m a quilter) so the white bobbin doesn’t show hardly any difference! I have many machines (including vintage) and I love my Presto II almost the most. Wish I had bought one years ago - so much better than the Big B machines!

I have a BabyLock Presto II that I purchased a little over 2 years ago and I love it! It does pretty much what my big machines do! The only thing I can see about this model (other than about $300 more) is the knee lift, which I don’t care about! I have may machines (vintage and new) and I love BabyLock more than the Bernina for so many reason!

What is the difference between a #15 bobbin and a #15J bobbin?
@babylocksewing19 күн бұрын
The 15J is slightly smaller than the regular class 15. Class 15 Genuine bobbins are the preferred Bobbin for the Baby Lock machines, as they are slightly colored and works well with the low bobbin detector. The edges of the bobbin are slightly rounded to the center, which will eliminate the bobbin from jumping while sewing. The part number from Baby Lock is X5280051, or BLG BOB, whichever is available through your Baby Lock Retailer.
