Thank you, you made a great job. I wondered if you have drawings to help me build those press for my girlfriend?

I added a drawing and some notes here for those interested in some of the details. This is not a tutorial (and not intended to be), but it may help those with some ideas for building something similar. This sort of project always works best if the maker is willing to do some intelligent experimentation. Good luck with it! studio.kzbin.infoUgkxvkbQ0WoLqJrQJzkEJVmyaRJQ4K0aXKS3/edit

Nice work! A friend suggested putting work between boards and just standing on it. Some people are heavier than others, of course, but I doubt that would work. But it left me wondering how much pressure is being applied in this kind of build? For example, would that pressure exceed your own weight/mass?

Sorry, I have not done the calculations. Because it is a double lever arm though, and with the approximate locations of the hinges on those lever arms, I think the applied force would be 3-4 times the downward force applied. You can get more (or less) force by extending the length of the lever arms, or shifting the position of the hinges.

Thank you from France! My girlfriend asked me if I can make a press for her. I only work with wood, so I wasn t sure to be abble to build something strong enough but thanks to your video, know I can!! 😊

Great! Glad that it helps. As long as you use a dense hardwood (maple, oak, ash, hickory, or similar) for the struts, you should be fine. Also, it will be important to use some heavy-duty hinges and perhaps adapt the way that they are used. (I just used some exterior galvanized strap hinges that I had hanging around, but any heavy duty strap hinge will be fine. I would use strap hinges just to allow good connection along the length of the struts. A key adaptation: At the lower-stress hinge points (2 of the hinges) I just used regular lag screws to fasten the hinges to the wood struts. But the other two hinges are potentially higher stress points, so I adapted the holes in the hinges a bit and then used through-bolts with a lock-nut (or lock-washer, and nut) to secure them to the wood. I have posted a picture here to show that: yt3.ggpht.com/Vh6uaCnmIGQloCFZJajai2AbWJQ09nY7NRAkayiwpEKjrdWnx_bsYgDp58Bxsq0bvxtzZ0rhy05u-A=s1600-nd-v1 Have fun building yours. Bon chance!

Interesting idea. These presses are expensive to buy, so I appreciate you helping less well-heeled people build their own. I wondered whether a cord or two going from the horizontal bar to the upper press plate might stop the plate swinging around when you're moving it into position to print? I noticed you're having to steady it with your hand every time you move it to print. Not necessary, of course, but might make it easier to use, and it's a very low cost modification.
@MrHolz1234

Sure, unless it interferes when the press platen (plate) when is lifted that sort of modification could be done if it is helpful. I don't do print-making, and this press was for my daughter-in-law. So far she has been happy with it. She also has a Woodzilla press which is a similar style that is made with a metal frame. The Woodzilla and other similar brands do not use any sort of stabilizing cord, but I am sure one can be attached if people find it helfpful. Thanks for the comment.

Sorry, I believe this contraption has design flaws. Aside from its quaint over-complexity, surely the biggest flaw is the weakness of various load bearing wood strips. If I had to print using top pressure, I would probably use a steel frame with hydraulic pressure. For example, a Harbor Freight hydraulic press could be arranged at a modest cost. Anyway, I am a professional printmaker. I print relief prints using a much better way: rolling them in an etching press. I realize that is a luxury because not everyone has access to an etching press. My point was that the larger the size of the print, the more difficult it is to apply adequate top pressure to achieve a good print.
@MrHolz1234
@MrHolz1234 11 ай бұрын
For whatever reason she and many others preferred a lever-operated press like this for their linoleum-block and wood-block prints, so of course that is what I made. (She had a deep aversion to roller etching presses for some reason). The wood struts in my design are well under their load capacity and the press is not in any danger of failing after many uses. I agree a simple hydraulic press would probably work fine - although slower opening and closing. I think some of this may be simple esthetics, and the hydraulic press and roller press apparently lack esthetic appeal for some. She expressed an interest in a "Woodzilla" style hand-press, so that this project is about.

a battery step up generator would reduce manufacturing cost so that everyone in the world would be using the imotor. you just need these three additions to reduce the battery size. A 775 motor and a yanmar permanent magnet alternator then transformer it to make a 11 amp and 36 volt ebike. the stuff it comes with should be able to handle the extra 1 amps. also you will need in series at least three potentiometers that you glue to a certain setting after setting it up and the first should be push button to turn on and off.

It got me up that very small hill with no pedaling after a full charge. It was not able to get me up the hill a second time. Although it still has some power left after going up the hill, and would assist pedaling on flats, it was too limited for my needs.

Hello there I really enjoyed all your videos and I have a question for you. I'm planning to buy my e-bike kit from Amazon. So what I'm doing is buying a foldup bike from Amazon then purchasing a ebike motor kit. Problem is I want to buy a front ebike motor because I want as little modifications and simple installation as possible. The problem I have is a fold-up bike on buying from Amazon has the disc brake on the front tire. Is there a rear brake part make a note that I need to purchase since the e-bike motor is the front tire? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. These are the items I'm planning to purchase photos.app.goo.gl/RKzFaYfKoLFP7awa8 photos.app.goo.gl/4GrSoAz4sobtVFtq6

I just went to the Jaxpety site on Amazon, and it appears that they do have a button for front tire option. For some reason they do no show a picture of their front tire though, so you need to confirm that it has at least has 6 mounting holes where you can mount one (and apparently buy that disc separately - standard disc are cheap, and you can easily take it off the bike front tire that you purchase and switch it on to your hub motor tire). Two of the reviews indicate that a standard disc ring can be mounted on the front tire, but one says that it will not fit all disc systems. So, you may have to be prepared to purchase and send it back if the disc brake location is not compatible with what you get. Or alternately if you can add in spacers and spread your forks a little for adjustment, you can probably make it fit. Don’t get the rear kit that they show the picture of as this would be the wrong kit if you want to use this for a front tire with a disc brake. You don’t want the one with gears. Understand that on some bikes having the power in the front is not as desirable, but for my system with the kick-bike, it works great.

I posted another video showing that the iMortar did not meet my needs. The battery/motor combination was not powerful enough to get me up even a very gentle incline without some pedaling or kick-biking. So, I returned it. It is a great concept, but not powered adequately at least for my needs (it is fine if you will pedal continually, or if you just want to go downhill). I ended up getting at 48V 1000W Hub Motor laced into a 26” wheel, and also this compatible 48V 11.6AH battery. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071FJND5T/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I get about 12 miles range up and down steep hills with this system on a kick-bike (no peddling, but occasional kick power). It works well, has adequate power, and gets me back and forth to work.

You would have to see the manufacturer to get their take on it. I found that I was not able to use the iMortar hub motor for anything except to increase speed on downhill, and minimally helped on the flats (whether raining or not).
