I've had 3 post op f/u's with my surgeon, he's given ZERO instruction like this. I keep asking "is it ok if I wear a spacer and he'll answer "sure". he never mentioned the compression sock... nothing about scar care. your videos have been incredibly helpful. 5 weeks post lapiplasty and I'm THANKFUL for your videos.

Excellent information. Much needed detail that many do not receive after foot surgery. The foot is a particularly odd thing to try to apply ice to because you can't keep an ice pack on it if you're elevating it. That's what brought me here to your video. Your suggestion to put the ice pack on the inside of your ankle as an option seems like it would be a very effective alternative.

This kind of detail is what is missing at postoperative after foot surgery. Just receiving a sheet with cursory instructions is not enough. I have yet to see providers spend the amount of time required to cover this adequately. Hence me running to KZbin for instructions a week after foot surgery. Thank you very much!

Maybe I should try 2 pillows under my right foot ankle and leg region because it when I tried with one pillow it helped a little but maybe if I tried it with 2 pillows it will work I have to visit my foot doctor tomorrow . Here goes a major trick

Surgeons really need to give good written instructions. I can’t remember a single thing that I was told after surgery since I had anesthesia for the foot surgery.

Thank you for sharing this video. I just had surgery 2 days ago and Amin quite a bit of pain due to the splint rubbing against my foot. I can’t stay in one position more than about 10 min. So obviously I haven’t had much sleep. I understand I need to keep it elevated but I can’t seem to get the swelling to go away enough to keep the pain at bay. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, all these comments saying they were given no post operative instructions boggles the mind. After surgery the post operative staff made sure I understood the instructions and went over them withe one which included how to properly elevate the ankle for preventing swelling and blood clots.

What are the pros and cons going through this surgery? How long is the surgery, and how long will it take for full recovery after the surgery? Are there alternatives? Will it cause more edema? Please let me know. Thank you! My previous foot orthopedic surgeon screwed up my foot performing an ORIF and then brushed me off 3 mos. later. A year later, another surgeon wanted to do a subtalar joint fusion but told me it would only take care of 1 area of pain but not all around my foot and ankle. I still have edema at the bottom of my foot 1 yr 2 mos. after the 1st surgery. The 2nd surgeon said it will also take care of the bone spur I have (as a result of torn tendon from a high ground fall) in the heel tendon area, but I feel skeptical for some reason. He was pushing me to do the surgery very soon, as he said for the effectiveness of the outcome. I'm too scared to go over another traumatic event, as I'm still doing PT .
