Was that a melanistic one at some point? I'm so jealous. I only went scuba diving once in my life and every day I want to go back. Thanks for the video!
@jakeharfield85165 күн бұрын
Yeah, the fully black ones are melanistic. If you're ever near Komodo, definitely dive there. Life everywhere you look, beautiful scenery, amazing people, food etc. Cheers for commenting, hope you get to do some more diving soon!

Hi @jakeharfield8516, Im thinking of visiting Speke bay lodge this december or January. Can you please share some details about the operator and how you planned this trip etc? Would be very useful, please
@jakeharfield85163 ай бұрын
Hey mate, no worries. We went with Birding Tanzania w/ birding guide Anthony Raphael. We were there in November during the short wet season, so it was pretty green and most of the birds were at least halfway into their breeding plumage, lots of activity. To get to Speke Bay you have to fly to Mwanza and then drive ~2-3 hours north by mostly bitumen roads. The lodge is beautiful with everything you could want, great accom and food. Good luck with your trip! Reach out if you have any other questions I'll try give you a hand
@jakeharfield85163 ай бұрын
@mahadak100 to give you some idea, our first checklist from a ~3-hour walk in the morning at Speke Bay Lodge had 78 species. Over 3 mornings we got about 130 species there, including some rarities flying across the lake and a Blue-headed Coucal (which is out of range there) in the papyrus.
@mahadak1003 ай бұрын
@jakeharfield8516 thanks a ton mate for all the details so far. I'm thinking of doing a mix of safari game drives and atleast 2 days of birding at speke Lodge. Trying to find am operator who can give a reasonable quote. Also did you do any trips from speke lodge like a boat ride or something to see the nile crocodile and nile monitor lizard? Kindly share
@jakeharfield85163 ай бұрын
@@mahadak100 No problem at all. We did a mixed wildlife/birding trip and everywhere we looked was expensive, so I hope you find somewhere affordable! We saw Nile Crocodile and Monitor Lizard at the lodge itself---we had about 8 of the monitors right outside our room at one time, so unless they are less active when you go, I doubt you'll miss them! Crocodile is basically guaranteed at the river crossings in the Serengeti as well. The Lodge offered some boat trips to local fishing villages, but our guide recommended against them as we were visiting other villages and could use the time better. If you walk around the lodge during the day, you'll see the tracks of hippos that are active at night. In fact it's quite dangerous wandering around at night there! We also saw a Bushbuck and groups of Dwarf Mongoose on the grounds.

@jakeharfield8516 thanks a ton! Would you please be so kind to share the link to your tour/itinerary which you booked with the operator info if possible. I will contact them. Hope you don't mind. I'm going to visit this jan 2025 hoping to see these lovely birds and nile monitor lizard too.

After watching this video again, I am curious as to how to did your on screen text, the dotted line and numbering of the lakes. Did you do them in your video editor? or did you use something like After Effects?
@jakeharfield85162 жыл бұрын
I did it using Premiere Pro. You can add little animations using keyframes. It takes a while and it isn't as effective as After Effects as far as I understand!

It would appear that the majority of the ducks shown at 8:00 are in fact Grey Teals, rather than Pacific Black Ducks as the caption may suggest. Note the lack of a bold facial stripe, inter alia.
