@swordlakeentertainment
@swordlakeentertainment 2 ай бұрын
It's great that you uploaded a video! We watched it, but even with the explanation you gave on another one of our videos, we can't say that we understand what's going on - that is, what the purpose of the game is. It is clear that there are many steps to your ideas and vision for the game that are much more complicated than can be expressed in a way that allows us to understand. Besides, a lot of the inspirations you have mentioned are games and other media that we aren't familiar with or are in genres that we have no experience or interest in. Therefore, we suggest that you do something (preferably all) of the following to get the feedback and inspiration you need for your project: 1: Talk to people you know in real life and present your ideas to them. It is much, much easier to explain such complicated things in person. For example, you can easily show off your work (gameplay, art, story text) and explain everything at the same time, which is necessary to allow other people to get a feel for something so big and complicated. Alternatively, you could do the same thing with friends over Discord, but in-person meetings is definitely the best. Having people you personally know along for the ride also ensures that you receive good and continued feedback throughout the entire process, from concepts to playtesting. 2: Go to fandoms of the games and media that have inspired you and ask them for feedback. If you are rooted in the same thing, it's much more likely that they can give you useful feedback, or at the very least more inspiration to take the project in the direction you want. But you should also keep in mind to not have too many sources of inspiration, or it's likely that the project will be messy, both as a product and a work project. The last thing you want is an overwhelmingly large project that will never get finished - trust us, large projects aren't all that fun all the time, which is why most people can't manage to complete them. You can look at Reddit forums, certain Discord servers or even just ask people on Twitter/X (although, considering the current state of that website, it might be just as well to stay away from it). 3: Look at the media that has inspired you (play the games, watch the shows, etc) and think about why they inspire you. What exactly is it that hooks you with those games? Is it the entire concept, a single mechanic, the characters, etc? Put everything on a list and check that they don't cause conflicts - for example, you can't have a visual high-fantasy theme and a visual space-science-fiction theme at the same time, since they cancel each other out, logically. The same goes for all other aspects of the game. 4: Watch game development tutorials. We don't make tutorials, we just talk about our own game. If you try to follow a few tutorials (you might already have done that), you can gradually get more advanced and find good methods to work on your own game. By following a bunch of tutorials that get more and more advanced, you'll probably learn a lot about game design as well, which is very important when making games. Good game design ensures that a game doesn't get bloated for both the developer and the player. 5: Consider who is supposed to play your game. If it's just you, you can do whatever you want - go for it! But if you want other people to play it, you need to consider what they expect and want as well. You should never tailor a creative project like a game exactly after what players want - because the truth is that they don't know what they want, a lot of the time. But you should at least have a target audience in mind and try to meet their minimum expectations. If you don't have a target audience for the game, you should look into finding one - for example, people who like a specific game or another, singular piece of media. Those are really all the tips we can give. We unfortunately can't give any personal feedback, since that isn't what we do, and we don't have the time to get as deeply invested in your project as it seems like you need. We do, after all, have the release of our own game coming up and have some very serious personal stuff to deal with, too, so we really can't do more than that. Hope that helps. We wish you the best of luck with your game!

Any ideas on stages for my Halloween game
@swordlakeentertainment
@swordlakeentertainment 3 ай бұрын
It all depends on what type of gameplay mechanics you have and what type of gameplay experience you want for each stage. We can't really give you any tips on that, but if you want suggestions on visual themes, you can always look at classic Halloween decorations and maybe have one theme per stage based on skeletons, pumpkins, ghosts, graveyards, etc. Good luck!

@swordlakeentertainment I'm sorry I wanted the game to be something familiar to me and what I wanted to play I thought it was going to be a smash bros clone with sonic heroes Team building and story I should have not give up on the maze shooter How this for team lightforce moveset 1. Character Design and Abilities Team lightforce movesets Lucy is a whip user and the main character of the series Geo is a fire based character that is pure heart of flame And mary is a sword fighter 2. Game Mechanics You will have the option to get 8 players single player and cpu player vs player 1 modes 3 level design this will all take place in locations in oregon mainly veneta and Sencta 4 storyline Development I originally thought it was going to be a fun craig of the creek inspired multiverse show but I couldn't decide if it was going to be a action superhero or a silce of life show

The first thing I did after making a movement script on my character was add dash, double jump and wall climbing. I just have to transfer the logic from my previous games in unity and rewrite it in gdscript. I succeed though i had a hard time making the wall climbing because I struggled on how "collision/mask and stuffs related to it" work, because unlike unity you can't just give them tags and layer names.

I wonder if there is a story with the characters bodies or is it a jojo reference?
@swordlakeentertainment
@swordlakeentertainment 6 ай бұрын
If you're referring to the poses, it's to make the characters stand out between each other and give each of them a bit more personality in their visual depiction. Since we only have the resources to give them a single pose (considering how many characters there are), we felt that it was best to give them unique poses that both show their personalities and profession pretty well. We also make them half-body-sized in the game to save space on texture pages. So unfortunately, there are no deliberate jojo references, haha
@Xeno7001
@Xeno7001 6 ай бұрын
@@swordlakeentertainment it kinda hard to explain but what I mesnt is the drawing style because its closer to that from jojo characters where everyone has every detail defined and looks manly While in most examples its more of a cartoonish anime style drawings with soft faces etc Or i watch too much anime Either way your characters do make me think of jojo. And they are nowhere near stock image idek who came up with that they are not the same at all

I am similarly trying to learn unity because i have hopes of getting good enough to turn it into a career. I currently work at a casino as a slot technician, and i frequently see that our slot vendors use unity to create the software for the games. That has inspired me to keep learning unity in hopes I can land a career making slot machines rather than just doing maintenance on them. Right now, I'm starting with very simple games to really get a good feel for how to organize and create projects in unity and gradually transition into more complex games and features. I have no skills as an artist, so the games right now are composed of simple shapes and UI elements. That said, I kind of agree with your assessment that the tutorial is probably more appropriate for an intermediate developer. I mean absolutely no disrespect to code monkey in saying any of this. I watch his videos frequently for inspiration on new features and learning to set up my projects better. In my unity journey, this 10 hour tutorial represented my 2nd serious attempt to learn unity. The first was through a paid udemy course that i never actually finished. I didn't like the teaching style in that course. I definitely feel that between the 3 "courses" i had watched on unity (i tried another course after code monkey, and never finished it either), the one from Code Monkey was definitely the best. I stopped the course about 30 minutes before the end of the course due to some frustrations i had implementing features. When i tried making my own game, i felt completely lost and didn't open up unity for several months. I think i would have thrived more from this course had i had more pre-existing knowledge going in. One of my biggest frustrations i have with unity courses is they tend to get people excited about building some game but don't provide enough of a way for students to figure stuff out on their own. It often feels like "do this, this, and this. And BAM tutorial over". 😊
