@@teev9060 Like I said before, Jamaica is small, and on its own it would come under severe pressure from the US. It is a better idea if this decision is made by CARICOM instead, however the US being vindictive as we all know, would retaliate. Currently CARICOM enjoys many benefits and privileges by aligning with the US, so care must be taken not to destroy this. We need not look too far, we can see what the US is capable of in Cuba and Venezuela.

Jamaica should look at Norway. Norway had an exodus of people to North America in the forties. The country was poor until oil was discovered offshore. Norway didn't sell their oil to corporations. The Norwegian government owns the oil. Improve the citizens' living conditions. The oil benefits everyone. They didn't go the North American route of greed for a few individuals getting rich while others suffered.

You have to be realistic, you have to live in reality. Oil extraction and the investment needed to build the infrastructure, is mammoth. Now you’re talking about geo political forces and international investment. In order for that investment to come to the island, you have to have social and political stability, built upon a foundation of rock solid principal’s that cannot be shaken. Social cohesion, law, order, diplomatic and business skills as an island. You are messing with geo political forces that have the potential of both good, and bad, if that investment is threatened. This can only be realized if the whole island is realistic, and buys into the concept. No magic wand will be waved and instant riches will appear. It’s not that simple. Earlier this year there were travel advisories for Jamaica. If something like an election, or any other matter can upset the island or, make investor’s nervous about recouping their capital , then , that oil will remain where it is . To the people, it isn’t a big deal, it’s just another day. As an international investor how would you view things ? Things like drug trafficking , corruption , crime , all come into play. This is a generational pursuit that some may not live to see but , if Jamaica truly want’s to improve the live’s of it’s people, it’s children & grandchildren, and the island itself, then drastic improvements need to be made. Until then, i will remain a dream and a rumour.
