Thank you very much for your videos. Individual and collective. As a 70-year-old cradle Catholic, attending Parish grade school, Franciscan high School and Benedictine college with a Seminary, I get obtain a different and fresh insight into many of the things I have taken for granted. I do believe converts come in with a fresh-eyed perspective. My Father converted to marry my Mother. He was one of the better Catholics that I have known. Perhaps part of the difference is learning the catechism as an adult instead of a child in grade school. I am now rereading the Catechism and the Bible, and watching videos such as this. The obvious reason is for my own salvation. The other reason is to defend against ankle biting comments from non-Catholics, especially those who don't consider Catholics to be Christian - it is a real thing.

Friday (Nov 22), marks my 10th anniversary back in Jesus' Church, after wandering in the wilderness for 35 years. The greatest thing I've ever done in my life is allowing the Holy Spirit to drag me back after being gone for so long. I never felt any urge to try any Protestant denomination. I always considered myself Catholic, but now I realize that I wasn't going to Heaven the way I was living my life. Thank you, Lord, for bringing me back home.

Years ago I believed that the Mass was still in Latin, and I believed that Catholics were forbidden to read the Bible. I was shocked at my first Mass that it was in English AND that they had three readings, not just one as I was used to. And not only that, but nearly every word of the Mass was literally or thematically from the Bible. "In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit" was something I'd seen and heard on tv and I'm the movies and that meant the character was Catholic, nothing more. But I heard it bookend the Mass and I realized they were addressing the Trinity. And when the priest said "behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world" he was referring to that wafer he was holding in his fingers! I'd never linked John the Baptist and the Last Supper together like that. But it told me, they really believe that's Jesus. Interesting. When I found out I was wrong about those two things (Latin and can't read the Bible), it told me that I might be wrong about everything else (I was). It still took ten and a half years to convert, but it was inevitable, I loved the Mass but didn't yet want to become Catholic.

I’m a revert back to the Catholic Church. I spent many years in Assemblies of God Churches. When I was lead back to the Catholic Church I was amazed at how much scripture was a part of the mass. And the kneeling, bowing, praying together certain prayers-so much meant so much more to me. I will say the I brought a piece of my Pentecostal expression with me. I cannot help but sway during the singing. Man, are those Catholic hymns so powerful and meaningful!

Around the 36:00 mark, Matt talked about overhearing the women at Panera. I’m not sure how to relate my concern with these women but here goes. I participate in a Catholic women’s bible study. Sometimes in the opening prayer, the facilitator will start with something from the book Jesus Calling. In addition, a Catholic friend of mine gave me the book Jesus Calling for Christmas last year. I have barely touched the book because something about it seems gnostic and new agey based on what I heard from the prayers read by the woman at the bible study. Women seem to be particularly attracted to these books. I wish knowledgeable Catholics such as yourself, would address these books. They’re still popular and I think they’re leading the faithful astray. I have seen other Christian YTers address this but only one, short Catholic response.

The New Mayan Rite Mass is another example of a long chain of negative changes...At best this is liturgical pluralism. This kind of syncretism in the name of "synodal path" and "listening" is another abuse of the Francis that has changed the Catholic church by eroding conservative and traditional doctrine and practice for over a decade.

I came from a Jewish background and, after coming to faith in Jesus, struggled for several months regarding where He wanted me to worship Him. (I was strongly considering the Catholic Church, but also the Baptist church.) Without making this post extremely long, I'll say that Catholicism won out, as I found the arguments against it to be flimsy compared to those in favor of it. I was baptized 21 years ago. Anyway...when I mentioned on FB that I had some sympathy for Martin Luther because of his scrupulosity (which I struggle with), a friend suggested one of the episodes on KZbin, I listened to a few of them, and then decided to go back and listen to your "On The Journey" series from the beginning. I'm glad I did! Such a valuable resource for Catholics, those wishing to join the Church, and even those who are just invested in learning more. God bless you both!

What can you say about the Mmiracle of Lanciano and other Eucharistic Miracle where the consecrated host became flesh
@sueseelie3 күн бұрын
The point you men brought up, about silence, reverence, that one should not expect a social gathering, this is so important for non Catholics to understand. My sister, who I am gently talking to about becoming Catholic, loves this aspect of the Mass. Whenever I am in town, she is more than eager to go to Mass with me. She has even gone on her own. She told me she has gone to other churches where congregants (probably greeters/ushers) were too intrusive. She said she goes for peace, solace, etc. I’m trying to convince her to go for the Eucharist. Great discussion

Instead of terrible taste they would be bewildered and wondering if people who seriously love Jesus care about understanding the Mass.

Sorry, but you don't need a "Convert's Guide to Purgatory." All you need is the Bible and the New Catholic Encyclopedia, which says: "The Catholic doctrine on purgatory is based on tradition, not on Sacred Scripture."
@user-ks3qr5fk6mКүн бұрын
The concept of purgatory, a purification before entering heaven, is certainly biblical. Revelation 21:27 tells us that nothing unclean can enter Heaven, so if one is saved but dies with unrepented sin, how can one enter Heaven? The Church says, "All who die in God's grace and friendship but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of Heaven." CCC 1030. In Luke 12:41-48 Jesus outlines three possible judgments that the master in the parable doles out to his servants - eternal reward, eternal punishment, or temporary punishment, either light or severe. 1 Corinthians 3:13-15, Malachi 3:3, was thought by Church Fathers to be a description of purgatory, as well as Psalm 66:12, Isaiah 4:4, which describe a cleansing fire. Matthew 12:32 This verse indicates that there is a place where sins can be forgiven. Some translations use the word, ‘world’, instead of ‘age’ but the meaning is the same. In this age, means on Earth. “In the age to come”, cannot mean Heaven because nothing unclean can enter Heaven (Rev. 21:27) and it cannot mean hell, because sins cannot be forgiven in hell. Once you are in hell, you are there for good. It is between the particular and general judgments, then, that the soul is purified of the remaining consequences of sin: “I tell you, you will never get out till you have paid the very last copper” (Luke 12:59). 1 Peter 3:18-20 Paul tells us that, when we are judged, each man’s work will be tried. And what happens if a righteous man’s work fails the test? “He will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire” (1 Corinthians 3:15). Now this loss, this penalty, cannot refer to being sent to hell, since no one is saved there; and it cannot be heaven, since there is no suffering (“fire”) there. The Catholic doctrine of purgatory alone explains this passage. David, though forgiven, was still punished for his sins. 2 Samuel 12:13-14 Matthew 18:21-35 Once again, you will pay back all that you owe in a place called purgatory. It cannot suffer torture in heaven because there is no suffering in heaven, and it cannot refer to hell, because no one gets out of hell. Atoned for the dead to free them from their sins. 2 Maccabees 12:44-46

With respect the joint declaration on justification did not speak for all of Catholicism and all of Protestantism. The anathemas towards Protestants on justification by faith alone from the council of Trent have never been rescinded either.
