Does this work well enough where you can still paint it or does it leave little fibers from the bristles?
@Zanzibrush21 сағат бұрын
I like to do this if a model has been sitting out before continuing to paint, since the dust build up can affect the smoothness of the paint. That being said there is totally the risk of bristles coming out of the brush but I think it’s worth it to remove the dust, and I just try and keep an eye out for bristles or anything else.

Can I use any GW or AP brown paint in place of the ink? I'm still new with painting miniatures.

I think it's important that it remains transparent, so I'd thin it down heavily with water and add a bit of medium also if available. Also I think the best thing you could do is just experiment and try different stuff out on spare bits if you have them!

I wish I could have seen this video like 2 months ago when I started almost the exact same project... My plan was to make an armature, fit it with a cage of small wire, then fill the cage with spray foam so it oozes everywhere and I can cut it into it random shapes. I tried to cover the foam in milliput, realized how much I would need, and then tried Durham's Water Putty, which was working pretty well, but is so messy... That project had been sitting on my shelf half finished 😅
@MattFraz13rАй бұрын
And for the base, I bought a flower pot mat, which is a large cork circle. Cut it to size, was perfect.
@ZanzibrushАй бұрын
hahah that sounds pretty cool though, I’m sure it will be great once it’s finished

Another alternative for the base is an old CD or two; they're slightly smaller at 120mm or so. Or just a couple of layers of corrugated cardboard... Instead of texture paste, I'd recommend the much cheaper spackle/wall filler. You can get a tub of ready-mixed filler for very little, and you can do a lot with it: water it down for a paint-on paste, mix glue in for extra durability, add sand for extra texture... but even straight out of the tub, it's ideal for all kinds of filling and basing purposes. These lads came out great, and I always love to see people encouraging cheap ways to get into the hobby!

You're doing some steady craftin' there! Nice work, you could also place some small trees, bushes and longer tufts of grass on their tops to really sell the effect of these being literal chunks of the earth getting up and walking around, earth elementals.

I saw the thumbnail, and my first thought was an army of Orc Rouge idols. They look more like the "giants" from the movie "Noah". But although I really, REALLY like your build, I think you are hindered, more than helped by your building material of choice. Styrofoam. Maybe a few more layers of texture paint (just PVA glue, fine sand, and paint) would be enough to cover the styrofoam better, but as it is, it is just too obvious what it is made from. In short, I think it is good, but with just a little more effort, it could be great!
@ZanzibrushАй бұрын
thanks, and yeah I hear ya, I think a more liberal application of texture paste would go far, but I also dig the crumbly look. Either way I appreciate you checking out the vid!
