I think I have an "original" Japanese made pup. Leather sheath, no snap, no country marking. Does anybody know what steel was used?

Every year my mother or one of my brothers gives me one of these for Christmas... What was funny this year is that my mother gave me one along with a Deluxe Tinker... I guess its a decent hammer, but the Tinker became my EDC and the hammer is in my junk drawer. I think the biggest issue is that you can literally get some of the cheaper vixtorinox for around the same price as these. I believe the Rally is only $15, the SD is only $25, etc.

Hands down this is the best machete I've ever owned, it's so good that you know that about one and a half inch piece of wood you could barely cut through with it, well and the hands of someone who knows what they're doing, that should take you about one swing, one swing with about 40% of your power is all it takes to go through something like that if you aren't swinging it like you were blind. This is as bad as somebody doing a guitar review but they don't know how to play the f****** guitar. Perhaps find another line of work.

I have shaken BOB's hand for a year now after horse-trading points with Cabela's. Ferro rod and holder pitched as I have other preferences. Great knife when I need to beat on, I mean, batton kindling. Seems to cause universal heartburn that an exposed carbon steel edge will oxidize. My preference was to wet sand out the grind marks reducing surface area. Some people will continue to a polish -whatever blows your hair back. I then apply a coat of T/C Bore Butter to solve the problem on the exposed blade. TCBB I do not believe is available anymore but there are plenty of "home made" recipes on-line. Many all natural ingredient versions available if food prep is planned. Not for everyone, but for 99% of my uses, the 3 oz (including sheath) Argali Carbon Stealth is all I need. Paired with their belt is a fantastic combination.

The knife is extremely sharp for carving wood, the saw is nice but a bit short, 2 good things about it.

But how does it log your steps?

I can honestly say that these little axes can do a tonne of fine, detail work just fine. The actual splitting versions aren't as good at it but for most wood those ones are just overkill!

I bought the BOB in 154cm and I love it. I also mirror polished the spine down to an adequate profile for fire steel striking. Plus it looks quite sexy. Not “the best Bushcraft knife”, but definitely a great overall use knife. I’d grab my Mora Garberg or even the Gerber Principle over the BOB for purely Bushcraft use and they’re much cheaper. Anyway, I love the knife aside from its assigned purpose. A BOB of all trades, master of the hand it’s in.
