Your logic is as follows: there freedom of Syrians from their murderous dictator coincides with US/Israeli interests, therefore Syrians must remain under brutal despotic dictatorship. You're the one who's not helping. If you want to help, help the new Syria be strong so that it can be a threat to Israel.

Even if the signed an agreement, they would break it. AKA Oslo is a prime example. They never wanted a two state; they were buying time to create facts on the ground and bring Zionists to the area.

Alon, I hope the past few days have opened your mind to a couple of possibilities. First, Arabs and Muslims have agency. Not everything revolves around the USA and NATO orchestrating events. Syrians, like others, have genuine struggles and aspirations. Second, and a bit of a spoiler: the final war won’t be Russia vs. the USA-it will be Muslims who ultimately dismantle the empire. Sinwar has started something, and his vision will finish it. We should appreciate seeing Syrians celebrating the end of an oppressive regime and innocent prisoners freed from Assad’s prisons. What’s happening in Syria reminds us that God is the best of planners and tyrants never prevail. Assad had years to bring fairness and peace, but instead, his approach was “Assad or burn the country.” Russia won’t intervene further, and Iran is scaling back in Syria. As for your tweet citing the Times of Isr@el about Jolani being warm with Isr@el-are we really trusting Isr@eli outlets now? When did this become a credible source? You’ve justified your anti-opposition stance as the "lesser of two evils," but wasn’t that the same flawed logic we criticized in US voters? Assad had ample opportunity to rebuild and bring justice but chose destruction instead. His people succeeded in kicking him out, not the US. Now, the Syrian opposition is being labeled as IS@S and Isl@mists-no different from how Isr@elis label H@m@s as terr@rists. The Syrian opposition took the opportunity with Russia’s focus on Ukraine and H@zbollah in Lebanon. Even Assad’s army fled because no one is loyal to Assad. The Arab Spring didn’t succeed initially due to poor planning, but another wave is inevitable. Assad’s failures, including letting the US have bases to steal oil and Isr@el bomb Syria anytime they want. US and Is@el loved Assad because they love weak leaders. I don’t usually leave comments like this, but I respect your work and read your Substack. Let’s give this new administration a chance. Already, a Christian priest is rumoured to have been appointed as Mayor of Aleppo - this is what Islam is about, not I@IS. Instead of blaming the USA or paying attention to Lebanese and Iranians crying on Twitter about the collapse of a Shia empire they imposed on Sunni-majority Syria, let’s focus on the voices of Syrian activists-those who’ve resisted Assad’s tyranny for years. Their perspectives matter most. Only time will tell what Syria's tomorrow will look like. While I respect Iran’s role in the Al Aqsa Flood, we cannot overlook their displacement of Syria’s Sunni majority, forcing many into Idlib or to immigrate out. Sectarianism has divided us and Iran has played a leading role in this-a hard truth that many Syrians are understandably upset about. I’m still shocked at how many people were cheering on the Russi@n airstrikes on Syria this week-has the past year taught us nothing? And don’t worry about Al Aqsa Flood-God is with them and Assad’s fall will not weaken their cause. Power is with the people. A Free Palestine cannot exist without a Free Syria. Justice for everyone.

People, who don't get Syria, didn't get anything at all. Looking at Israel and not conclude that the US/collective West empire is behind this, is a big mistake. Israel is a symptom, not a cause. It could have been the fall of the empire, bit people chose Al-Qaida over Assad and ultimately ober Iran. If the middle east falls the empire, its reign is cemented for the next 100 years

So so true. I've been saying the same but alas no body listens. The USA will control the whole world if people don't wake up and act.

Percy Bysshe Shelley 1792 - 1822 I met a traveller from an antique land Who said: “Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert . . . Near them, on the sand, Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown, And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, Tell that its sculptor well those passions read Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed: And on the pedestal these words appear: ‘My name is Ozymandias, king of kings: Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!’ Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Without getting out from under the American boot, there will be no freedom or justice for any country. Even when dictators are overthrown with US intervention, those countries are colonized and exploited by the US, and the people there exchange a home grown despot for a Western invader. America is never in it to help anyone but itself, people need to get it. Thank you for speaking out, Alon.

Russia is trying to help Assad as well because they have their interests in Syria, mainly the Seas ports in the north. However, they are also too busy in their own wat in Ukraine. Let's find out if Damascus will fall as well. The end of Assad regime may be near. I don't know they nature of these rebel forces and what and who they are made of. Is it partially ISIS? Will they try to attack Israel if successful taking over Syria? Time will tell. It's amazing how the tribal instability is shaping up the reality there. Who's friends and who's enemies? I think it's not the only change coming to the Middle East.

Hizbollah that was the saviors of Assad in Syria got weaker by the war with Israel with crippled abilities. The shea Muslims let by Iran got allot weaker as the result of the war. Therefore, the Sunni Rebels took advantage of it and waited for this opportunity. They are being helped by Turkey.
