Carl-Magnus (Calle) Stenius was not the chief engineer onboard. He served onboard as a day engineer. He had chief engineer's certificate as certificate of competency issued by the flag state as per STCW requirements, but he did not served in chief engineers position onboard as far as I know. In finnish language those do not get mixed wrongly as in the certificate the finnish word used for chief engineer is "ylikonemestari" (senior engineer) and rank of ship's chief engineer is "konepäällikkö" (chief engineer). During my time at Finnjet the chief engineer's positions onboard were held by Herrala and J. Puonti (Haapanen had retired some time earlier). The rank of day engineer was held by Stenius, S. Puonti and Tanttu. On that video, you can recognize that from insignia, as Stenius has three gold stripes in epaulet. Chief Engineer has four.

What the Chief Engineer Calle Stenius is telling us in the "tauluhuone" (the panel room)? 4:18 That whole system he is pointing at, is basically a computer itself, and contains the alarm system of the ship. 5:16 He is telling that this printer paper has all the information what they need from turbines, diesel engines, generators, electric motors, transmission, propeller saft etc. 5:24 Stenius is cursing because the monitor is really dirty. 5:32 Turbine values: Temperatures, fuel pressure etc. 5:40 Diesel engine values: 5:48 temperatures of the exhaust gasses from every cylinder 6:00 The temperature status for every bearing in the transmission system 6:10 Frame bearing temperatures 6:15 The whole view of the fuel system: fuel temperature, pressure, consumption 6:30 Phone: "The Panel room! How much? 6-3? Okay. 63 centimeters." 6:54 "Turbine exhaust temperatures are currently about 600°C (1112°F)." 7:27 Bilge pumps, "If there is water somewhere on these pumps they will turn red and alarm starts ringing." 7:45 Visitor: "Has there been a situation where something is out of order?" 8:04 Stenius: "Oh yeah, the system always tells us. At this moment we have these alarms over here" 8:17 "For example, we have a fuel leakage on the starboard engine. It is trickeling at the moment. Also separator temperature is cold. Portside engine has low pressure since it is not operating at the moment, it is on standstill." 8:48 "The engine leak is not serious. it is really small and there is a bowl which collects all the stuff which is mainly water."

Thank you your highness. the finland i live in is nowhere near the big cities. usually foreigners hit helsinki, and then they go back home thinking they have seen finland. Its a tragedy. When i travel, i always try to get out of the cities. I have seen new york, hamburg, berlin, london - they all the same. City people are all the same. Out in the place where people work a little harder to survive, with the nature not against it, i found people i can rely on in a pinch.. real friends. but mostly i am left alone :) How far would you have to travel?

@@zoolkhan You’re welcome. To get to Finland, it would be a rather long flight from the USA where I live. I reside in a small college town just outside of a major city, and near a lake. I work in and around the city, when I’m not pursuing a performing gig in theater. Pretty lonely where I live as well, but I have a friend one town over whom I met back in California in 2013. I’ve lived all over my nation in NYC, Miami, and Las Vegas as well as Los Angeles. My friend and I grew up two towns away from each other just outside of Los Angeles and didn’t know it at the time (different backgrounds).

That happened in my friend’s neighborhood, some horses had escape their stables and were wandering the streets. The owners got them rounded up. Sadly that horse stable is gone, now. They also had a Turkey, a dwarf bunny, and an angora bunny as well as some geese at those stables. The place had been around since the 1920s, but emptied and torn down in the early ‘00s. They tried to sell it as vacant land and eventually did, but the new owner never got his house built on it because the neighbors didn’t like what he wanted to build on it (a McMansion). Great video.

yes, the rural areas need rejuvenation by young families - and in the time and age of homeoffice and internet, it should not be such a black magic trick. sadly , my stables and paddocks are empty now.... so is my house...

nope. but all people shown in the movie did not suffer hearing damage until their death. Me and my brother and father are still alive, i am 54 - and so far my hearing is ok. Anyhow "dont do this at home" people :) --- A quick walk through there is not a big deal. People go to rock concerts more often than machinerooms. But for the professionals it would probably be smart to wear "mickeymouse-ears"

on the modern transceiver with that fancy display, there is a texas instrument (i believe) DSP chip inside that does an incredible job at supressing background noise if engaged. For the >40 old grey receiver on the top... such things did not exist.. it has an analog filter in the audiochain (basically goes into earphone plug, and feeds into external speaker after filtering) So that analog filter can reduce the bandwidht heared (for voice around 3000 hz) even further and by doing so it reduces noise that is potentially irrelevant for understanding the spoken word. basically you want to focus on the accoustic guitar, and filter out high hats and tuba. :) Its real strenght is for isolating telegraphy signals from all the noise (there you only need to let like 50hz through and you can block all the rest) - and this aggressive filtering is one of the reasons why in radio communication you always get much farther with morsecode than with spoken word transmissions. You can use all your transmitting energy on a single spot in the audio-spectrum, and on the receiver side you can filter down to that same spot. This will work when all else fails.

Yes this is nice steady morse, very readable, with as you say a few 'dot' errors. Your style is American, which is fine, and particularly suited to a low profile key. That does not mean, as some US commentators insist on claiming, that the 'European' method is inferior. This involves using the arm and shoulder as well as the wrist, flexibly, on a taller and more substantial key, often bolted to the front edge of the desk. Indeed, perhaps 2/3rds to 3/4s of the world's professional operators use that style, and it does not lead to injury as long as the operator remains relaxed, as he should.

When i was tought this by a german merchant, and later German navy instructors it was not specified to be anyones style. This BS comes from hams 🙂 who also, if asked, have no clear ideas where it was coined :) Plenty of americans believe the floating ellbow is the way to go, and to them i tell you: " if force by circumstance only " Especially in the navy, you may end up with very tiny quarters. (not every ship is a USS Nimitz or saratorga) and in those quarters is no room for the entire lower arm. (my workplace was like that) You make do with what you have - and woosh the standard "floating ellbow and hurting shoulder" is born out of necessity. I think there is no "american" or "european" method. Or else i will be calling this the "german method" since i saw this beeing traine this way in germany by professionals and goverment paid officials alike. And then lets see how much flak i get for that. haha... 73 man de og4u

...regarding sound, you only hear music because i live in a calm place with only the sounds of nature. (i really wish i could use some copyrighted music instead the lousy offers from the YT library, i also wish there was a proper crossfader in the online editing tool) So basically, you hear nothing because there is nothing to hear - el gato walks silent, and doesnt talk when i am not around ;)

...heh, for days i thought whom is he talking to. This can hardly be called an antenna farm haha... But thank you :-) I work all HF bands, - wherver there is propagation. In the summer 10/15/20 and warc.... In the winter , because we dont get that much daylight in the winter (no ionisation) i move more to the longer wavelenghts 160/80/40 I do all modes that allow for conversations. Which means, i am seldom on ft8 I can be found on CW, SSB, Js8 , Winlink, hellschreiber, sstv, and sometimes even on FM or DMR haha... 73 oh8xat

That was so painful, especially on extended periods. I wound up with my whole arm on the table, and minimum Wrist and Finger Movement. No glass arm, and minimal Arthiritis Pain. What works for you, is the best way. 73

if you get pain, glas fist or fatigue to soon then you have not understood my instructions. i guarantee you, the "floating elbow" method fatigues you much sooner. and amplifies things like glass fist. the rested elbow allows for relaxation of unused muscles (i.e shoulder) it is not required to mimick exactly my exaggerated motions, as long you rest the elbow. what you see in my video i can (and you technically could) do all day long transmitting the bible at hight speed even. one should at least have tried it as Maritime radio professionals suggest. then you can modify it to fit your individual needs, or abandon it altogether. it would be an educated decision. btw i use the paddle mostly. but i don't lose my skills on the straight key - both keys are parallel connected and even ready to go when rig is in ssb mode. I had to exagurate the motions a bit, to get a point across. Unfortunately youtube erased my subtitle-explanations, so you lack the explanations..... ...unless you actually read the code.

@@n2dabloo i use dust covers mainly, never really touch them directly - before i had teh dust covers i cleaned them with microfiber cloths, only when that isnt enough i will use autosol. Something we used in the navy to polish brass (literally) for the silver contacts, if they ever need a cleaning - then usually i put a sheet of paper between the contacts, squeeze a little bit and then pull the paper back out - that will be enough....

you may want to skip ahead 10 minutes before anything interesting comes up on screen.... sound may be confusing at times Becaise we have 2 radios in operation on the same antenna. So you may hear ft8 sound, but also operation from the other transceiver. Nothing like a good mental challenge :)

Fortunately i have a real job, and am not emotionally or otherwise invested into the "succsess of my channel" .. like so many other youtubers. So my streams are spontanous, stuff that i hope people find interesting - or at least the QSO partners at the time. I have no illusions(delusions?) that this channel will ever have more than a few hundret followers. I dont unbox, i dont put makeup on my face - and i dont show my own ugly mug into the camera too often - so i am never going to be "famous" haha.. But if i managed to entertain you for a bit, or if i can educate someone in the radio community, then it was all worth it. I hope you like learning new stuff as much as i do, then you will eventually have an own station experimenting with the countless possibilities that exist in the amateur radio world. The purpouse of the last stream was a bit to show off "modern" amateur radio - even though morsecode was part of it :-) Stick around if you like, and if there is something you want to know more about, let me know - perhaps i make another video :)

i suspect they hire transmitters outside their own country like china does - they just rent old transmitters in their target area for the propaganda. ...i just noticed i had the 2nd pre-amp on, so real s-value might be a bit lower but still above 9
