Theses horses are bread for racing. All the horses that don't want to be race horses and race they tell u after the first few times on the track and then they sell them or bread from them. I've ridden showjumpers and eventers since I was 6. I'm now 16 and I ride showjumpers and race horses and seriously race horses get treated better than showjumpers. U can't say that it's abusive if u wanna say that well show Jumping is worse. Race horses hardly get drugged. There's been more drugging in show Jumping. Don't get me wrong I love both I own 4 horses and compete but you shouldn't be saying stuff about racing when really you don't know what goes on in a racing stable

J Holden over 99% of racehorses retire sound (0.2% die) in the UK and none are sent to slaughter as I can guarantee every horse in the UK racing industry has been given a substance like bute which means they are not suitable for slaughter for meat. They are rehomed to private homes. My ex racer ran 40 races, won a fair few, never fell, retired at 10 and came to live with me and I have had him 10 years this month :)

Jess93 The UK seems to set the standard for care in the racing industry though. Unfortunately it isn't the same everywhere. I believe Australia has a far higher injury and death rate than the UK, and because we don't consume horse here, I think the abattoir regulations are much more lax. Sure the really big places like Godolphin can afford to retire and rehome horses appropriately, but then there are too many operations that just don't seem to care past the point where the horse is no longer able to make them money. However, I have come to see that this isn't only true of racing (other disciplines do the same thing too), it just tends to happen on a much bigger scale in racing because of the money involved (can attract the wrong sorts of people) and because there are just too many horses bred (comes back to potential for money). I think certainly there are people that need to see that there is more to racing than just abuse (I myself used to absolutely hate it, but have come to see it a little differently now). The thing that really needs to be changed in racing though is the age they are started at. Racing by 2-3 is just way too young, and so bad for their developing bones. In every other sphere of riding, a horse is not even started until they are 3-4, sometimes older. If they can fix that, I can see potential for me to enjoy horse racing, but at the moment, I just can't support it.

wages arent great. they are better then they used to but still not fantastic. you wont get rich of it but if you love horses and like to ride its the best job in the world. i earn about 208 a week before tax its enough to live on as long as your careful

I’ve been thinking and have got an idea. When I leave school I’m doing an apprenticeship as yard manager and instructor. Then when I’m 18 do this until I’m about 22, then moving onto an instructor and yard manager job then pack up and move to Wales and buy a yard 😂😂
