Beautiful. As a teen in Garden Grove I would go the Methodist church to hear him play. I remember his wild improvisations in the middle of hymns, and playing Ginastera.

A really beautiful piece! Beautiful descending lines. I love it.

This is a fascinating composition. It seems to continually descend while remaining stationary, like Shephard tones. I very much enjoyed the canonic and other contrapuntal elements.

As an organists I added several James Michael Stevens compositions to my regular list of preludes and postludes to rotate during the year. They provide an uplifting, tasteful and fun alternative to Bach, Handel, Mendelssohn and settings of hymns. Thanks Mr Stevens for your work and especially for keeping it real so I don't have to practice hours and hours for a good result. Writing this way requires great skill, so I am very grateful to you.

This is very lovely and I am grateful to discover the music of James Michael Stevens. Organists should enjoy programming some selections for worship which are tasteful, modern and yes, easy. As an organist with other work during the week, I need to alternate more difficult classical prelude and postlude repertoire with something easier. The people also need to feel that preludes and postludes are not a recital. My most challenging standard repertoire takes practice time to maintain, so I appreciate Stevens' writing more simply. Simple is not easy! It takes a great sense of balance to be balanced but not predictable, to be light and joyful but not treacly or banal, and modern without gratuitously going for a jazz note or a syncopation. Stevens creates compositions of a lighter nature that truly bless the congregation and create a prayerful, joyful atmosphere. Thanks Mr Stevens and thank Mr Cooman for lending your credentials to this performance.
