I had my Ultra D-10 built in 2012. It’s been a great guitar and has seen a lot of bar room gigs over the years. I love it.

Great Stuff! I just purchased my first PSG; the GFI student model through Sam Ash. It's really beautiful; even the case! Very affordable; especially when trying to learn something new. I did made sure to get the better model with 4 knee levers. So glad I got a product with such great heritage. What a gifted human being Gene is!.... and the team he chose to make these in the present. Thanks.

I have played since 1958; the last pedal steel I purchased was a beautiful Black trimed in Gold GFI. It got a lot of attention by others by it's looks alone. Glen Fields did a magnicient job producing a great sounding steel that is well known and played by many pros. The first time I saw a GFI was on stage at the Cottillion Ball Room in Wichita Kansas; the steel player name fails me but he was playing for Ray Price Orchestra Group. Hats off to Glen Fields for his contribution to the pedal steel industry for the GFI.

I've played guitar starting in the third grade, but always loved the sound of pedal steel. I recently purchased my very first pedal steel from GFI. Due to the pandemic, it will take about 7 months to be built. I can't wait. It is a student model guitar 3x4. Think it will be a nice guitar to learn on.

my friend, could you give me plans in PDF, I am from Argentina and here there is nothing of those instruments and I want to make one for myself since I have been playing the simple steel guitar for 35 years and my dream is to have one with pedals, I thank you for beforehand

I have known Gene for many years from the St Louis ISGC at Scottys Convention. My family lives around the Marshfield area where the GFI shop is now located. While I have a number of other makers pedal steels that are great. In 2021 I was admiring a new SD 10 4x5 Ultra from GFI. The next month my bride surprised me with that steel as a birthday gift. It plays and sounds amazing and is beautiful to look at. I'm more than happy with this gorgeous tone and smooth action steel. At 73 this is likely my last steel guitar.

Do GFI Ultras have stainless steel changers?
@emmettroch695 Жыл бұрын
It was Gene's intention for the Ultra to have only the best features he could offer, so I would say "yes". Gene conducted an exhaustive search to make sure nobody else in the business was using the name "Ultra" before he chose that name for his top-of-the-line pedal guitar. I've had two GFI guitars and I was pleased to report to him that no airline I had ever flown on - USA or European - had been able to damage them.

I'm an ex-pro guitarist, so not really a student per se. Can you tell recommend a GFI model that won't break the bank but deliver good playability and quality sound? Thanks. Happy New Year!

I actually work with Gene’s nephew (at least I believe he said It was his relation, they certainly look a lot alike). I’ve heard many stories about Gene and his work with Fender and GFI. His nephew (early-mid 60s) is also a musician, and a really great guy. We struck up an instant close friendship when we started working together because we shared similar music tastes... I don’t play Pedal Steel guitar, but I’ve often thought about buying one and learning, and there’s no doubt if I do, it will be a GFI.

Mike plays great. I have family in this town and drive by this facility many times. Excellent steel guitar founded by Gene Fields of Fender fame. Gene was a genius and gifted player himself.

A t some stage gene made 6 string electrics before or after joining fender , I believe only a few were made , , he named them Sierra , I have one here in New Zealand , it's very old no paint , 21 fret exactly like a fender start , I have searched the net looking for more info but none , it nas no markings any where , but looks like hand wound pickups , so if you know more than me p,ease share or mail [email protected].
