6 years late? I dont understand. Also who is the VSCC? (Im in south Africa) This car was in pieces for ofer 40 years. Scrapped in the late 60's to avoid yearly licensing. I have all docuemnts on file. My dad started restoring it before me and my sisiter and life got in his way. After his passing I had to restore.

Those headlights you showed in the begining take single filament globes and the drivers side used that mechanism to tilt the reflector down and therefore dimming for oncoming traffic.

I own a 2012 Mercedes C250CDI. I had a similar problem. What very often happens with the OM651 is that the intake manifold is leaking boost or that the turbo pipe running from the intercooler is leaking. In my car it turned out to be the intake manifold. I then replaced the intake manifold and throttle body. the car drives like new. this cost approximately 2400 euros if its done by a professional mechanic. You can recognize this problem if you hear a hissing sound coming from the right side of your engine.
@rmk6884
@rmk6884 9 ай бұрын
Should I take the engine out so that access is easier? I dont hear any hissing sounds by the intake (However I am a little deaf) but there is some evidance on the block that their might be a leak. Will include in the next video

I've owned a few OM651 Mercedes and it looks like your car still has issues with generating boost. I'd take it to another Mercedes specialist. It appears they've broken the ECU wiring clip when removing to gain access to the Turbos etc. Best of luck with your fix.

That would have neen nice, yes. This car was stripped for restoration before 1980 when I was born. My dad got 2 kids and a wife that had no interest in cars and then he had to build a house and kept the car in peaces my entire life. Parts was scatered all ofer his place and we had to figure out most of the things.

I’ve been watching your videos featuring the Drophead 3.5 liter SS Jaguar engine. I’m building a 1/16 scale model of the 1939 3.5 liter SS100 Jaguar. Your video has been very helpful… I want to build the engine in the model to look as accurate as I can make it at this small scale. The ‘38 Drophead engine and the SS100 engine are very similar if not the same.

@@rmk6884 Hi, Ready made replacement radiators are not available as you know. However a larger radiator core can be cut to size and fitted. The only issue is that the thickness of the core must be the same as your factory unit. Width and length can be cut to suit. The top and bottom tanks can be transferred from old core to new core. A friend in Australia followed this procedure. For my car, I contacted a company in UK by the name of Vintage Car Radiator Company. They supplied me with a perfect replacement core.

Thank you for the info. I am going to fit a electric fan between the grill and the radiator.
@sulaimanabbasi1595
@sulaimanabbasi1595 Жыл бұрын
@rmk6884 Yes, that will help with the cooling, but there are 2 concerns. 1) The car has a dynamo, not an alternator, so it may discharge the battery while it is running the fan. This means that your ammeter may show a discharge when the fan is running and 2) has to do with thermodynamics of heat exchange. There are two parts to consider. Enough water has to circulate in the engine to absorb the heat and take it to the radiator and then give up the heat to the copper tubes/fins where enough air has to carry away the heat. Fixing an electric fan will assist in carrying away the heat. But you still have to ensure that adequate water is circulating in the block/head and that the water is surrendering its heat to the radiator. Anyhow, I am sure you will sort it out.
