In the opening clips i liked the renown better. It had a little danger to it. The bandit did have a shifted midrange focus but it felt as focused as room temperature mashed potatoes. I think an eq pedal and blending more lead channel into it and the renown would be a meat axe

I had a Bandit 75 back in most of the 80's and 90's. By far my favorite amo. Am looking to getting another one as soon as I see one in my local pawn shop or Guitar Center. Cannot beat the sound on them. I had a Black Widow in mine. Loved it.

I had me a Bandit 75 that I found just amazing. Sounded great. And was it LOUD! Had one of the best tones that I ever used. By far my favorite.

I keep coming back to this video as I don't know about how they sounded in the room but on my tv speakers I honestly can't hear much of a difference as from what I am hearing it sounds like the Scorpion might be the original budget friendly Creamback as i just can't see spending $170 on a chinese made Celestion even though they sound great the prices should reflect the cost saving Celestion is profiting from by having them made in China as opposed to when they were made in England and the labor cost there they are now saving by having them made in China to save money but did not pass any of that savings onto the customer is my only problem with Celestion but the $100 you paid for that creamback seems very reasonable, I've also read Nuno Bettencourt and Steve Morse used Scorpions in the past

Sounds great! I have the exact same Bandit and you might have just convinced me to swap in a Greenback, Creamback or G12H30.

I had essentially the same amp, but the Special 112. Same controls, same speaker, same cab, but 120 watts. A couple things were unfavorable... One, the speaker is VERY low-mid heavy. Yes, it's made to be loud, but it's hard to get past that thick, thick sound. I put a Blue Marvel in it and the difference was HUGE. Two, the "clean" channel is weird. The blue knob is the master volume for both channels, while the clean channel volume is really a gain setting. It's virtually impossible to have the lead channel set to a decent amount of overdrive and have the clean channel actually clean, with the same final volume. There are some fantastic settings on each channel, and this amp is extremely diverse, but there are limitations.

How does this compare to the bandit from the same series you got? Same gain structure? I here the speakers in these are decent

This same model was my first "real" amp, back in the late 80s. If only I had known about swapping speakers back then.

I used a pair of Bandit 65's from 1988 to 1992. In 1993 I went back to Fender tube stuff for a minute but ended up back with a pair of Valve Kings. For the past 2 years I've been using a Brent Mason Telecaster and a pair of Special 130s with a Zoom G6 multi-fx. Big huge stereo sound!!!!

Nice video. I've got a Weber Axis speaker in my Bandit 65. However, I'm pretty sure that Scorpion has been reconed, so not quite stock. A Scorpion should have a non-ribbed, non-seamed cone. That one apppears to be ribbed and seamed like an Eminence 1258 cone. The guy at Hempopotamus sells a recone kit for Scorpions with that style of cone, could be his work.

I had a 75 back in 84'. I also was a fan of the clean channel. I never thought the distortion channel was that great. Great pedal platform though.

OK, people who make videos, please learn how to mic things. You didn’t mute your camera’s mic so we can’t actually hear the amp, we hear the room the amp is in.

Not much of a peavey guy but if I has to play one I would prefer an 80s era Heritage. Much better sounding amp with much better response to your playing style.

Back in 89 my band opened for a band/ artist whose videos were at the time on heavy rotation on MTV. My gear at the time consisted of a Japanese copy of a Gibson Flying V and a good ole peavey bandit. lol.

Enjoyable video, thanks for sharing! Perhaps the Renown just needs a different speaker. Eminence describes the 1518 has having big low-end and mellow top-end. I wonder what a Black Widow would sound like? Looking at the manual's for the Renown and Bandit on Peavey's website, the Renown has an active tone circuit (meaning flat is with everything at noon) while the Bandit has a passive tone stack (most likely where Bass and Treble are nearly all boost-only and the Mid is nearly cut-only). The two circuits behave quite differently. That written, I think both sound great. I'm curious how they sound together!

Uuuhhhhh is there something wrong with the reknown? Sounds like that amp needs time on the bench
@dcooper8306 ай бұрын
Yes I think something isn't right. Maybe a different speaker or fix the tone stack. I've found identical Peaveys sounding different and/or worse. Probably due to aging components I imagine.

Lovely! Way back when, I didn't care for Ebony fingerboards so I never considered an ES-355. Having owned a few Carvin guitars with Ebony fingerboards, my opinion has changed. I saw this and got excited, but $1300 for an Epiphone scares me as much as current MIM Fender pricing.
@dcooper8306 ай бұрын
Yeah, I hate to say but, in a way, these aren't a good buy if: A. you're just going to get a Gibson in the end... or B. Already have guitars 😅 Better to save your money. Unfortunately I couldn't stop myself from getting the 355 lol 💸
