I am 64 going long 65 I was one of the paddlers I can relate to this as I went to residential school. I cried during this powerful song. I know how it feels I know how it feels to be taken away and as a kid not understand why it's happening, i cried all the way from Prince Rupert to Port Alberni.

this song is called "Yeems K'amksiiwaa Hlgu K'awk'aaw" it is a song that belongs to the killerwhale tribe of Gingolx. The kids were playing at the beach, watching a boat coming onto shore, when they noticed that the maksgwim gat were staggering onto the beach from apparently rough waters. The young killerwhale boys made fun of them, pointing at them "Yeems K'amksiiwaa hlgu k'awk'aaw" The white people are walking like crows."

I’m confused. Isn’t this a Nisga’a group? The song is from my hometown Port Simpson, and only shared amongst Tsimshian dance groups.

our dancers must not be substance abusers of drugs nor alcohol. to bring back our spirit they must be pure of taint itself.
