Hi I have a 1965 VW Beetle a GEX 1200 engine and the problem is its vapor locking constantly when its hot and i replaced every fuel system part including the carburetor, fuel pump, the flange and pushrod, i ran a new fuel line under the chassis as its leaving me on the side of the road as i have to pour water on the pump and reprime the carb to get it to restart. as the pump and flange is newer. originally on the 40 horse the pump has a screw on fitting but this has the push on fitting its a Autozone Delphi pump as why is this keep vapor locking on me ?
@Volkswagenplanet12 күн бұрын
@@derekobidowski3301 vapor lock is a strange issue. The very first thing i would look at would be the spacer under the carb. When it starts to get old it causes issues. Replace it , then most inportant maje sure the the screws are tight. Next thing i would check would be the carb jet size. Jet could be wrong for the engine. I dont know much about 40hp motors. The basics are the same. Once you have the right size jet then you can fine tune the rest. That really is the only thing it can be. Sounds like timing is correct.

Silly question. Should all these boxes have a foam insert? And also are they sealed with a gasket? I have one mounted on the upper fire wall. It has nothing inside and is dripping oil in my beautiful engine bay. It was installed when i got the motor put in and i have no idea if it supposed to have a filter or foam inside. Would it be bad to use a liquid gasket type product to seal it?

Fuel pressure, clogged lines from washers in stock fuel pumps, kinks in line under gas tank, choke not ideally set... and on it goes. I want duals but I can't make a single work😂😂. Starts, idles, sometimes dies not always, if it does die doesnt want to start. The 1st time my buddy drove it, he got it down the street in Low, then came to a halt when he tried to put it into 1st. - Without even being able to see in the cab, I had to yell at him: "TAKE YOUR HAND OFF THE STICK!" lol. As soon as he did, it took off.
@pjeno0074 ай бұрын
Nothing weird about it. Maybe cause my 1st VW was an 68 Autostick. Once you get that reverse is "push down (to the floor), then up and to the left, the rest is just like you were driving a standard from 2nd thru 4th - no problem. The plus with the Autostick: the transmission was set up with different gear ratios, so you could drive around town in Low all day. 2 was for the freeway. But it didn't jerk you around like 1st gear would be doing on a standard. My Autostick was VERY zippy, but probably because I had an excellent VW mechanic who also built drag race buggies. lol. As he 1st described it to me, due to the different gear ratios + specific tire sizes (and surely whatever better engine he thru into it), he said it was "dialed in". And yes, I was a speed demon in it.

@robeggett99465 ай бұрын
If I can't get anything out of the nozzle and I know there is still product in there, I simply punch a hole in the can with a hammer and nail and let the wd 40 drip out of the hole I made and onto wherever I need the juice. Definitely a flawed design in the can and spray, I seem to always only get a partial benefit of an entire can with the spray only. (And, no, this does not make the can explode.)

The choke should really be controlled by a cable with a push/pull knob on the dash. The 'automatic choke' really isn't automatic at all, from my experience. They should have left the choke knob on the dash manually controlled with a cable. Like my old 66 Austin Healy Sprite was.

I dont understand why he keeps switching to say how it would be in a normal car. Just say ude the low for vety slow start. Use first ti go up to 40 and then shift to 2nd. When you take the fiit off the gas is when the clutch engages or when you put pressure on the stick is my question. Also is it a tirque converter or is there something else engaging and disengaging the clutch? Im thinking of getting a autostick for a rebuild but i want to understand how it works compared to a new electric semi auto like in a smart car that used a motor to engage and disengage the clutch
@Volkswagenplanet6 ай бұрын
Yes, there is a torque converter. Takes ATF. YES soon as you tale your foot off the gas to shift. The major downfall is parts availability. O have a few companies that still offer some parts. You have to be advised that you cant build a bigger engine. There are a few major differences in the engines internally. If you need parts, i would suggest The Samba. They seem to have used parts most of the time. Besides the engine and trans the rest of the car is the exact same. There is a few different sheet metal pieces in the engine compartment. This is why you see most of the autosticks have been swapped to mamuals. Feel free to ask any questions. Stay safe, stay warm. God Bless
