Geoff Toovey was , perhaps, the second best rugby league player of ALL time....the BEST being Cliff Lyons..BUT I need to say...ON a good day, nevertheless they were both miles ahead of Mat Johns ..maybe Bob Fulton was the third best....If these guys had played with G. Eadie as full back , Brannigan and Hannigan on the wing and Fulton and Jesus Christ in the centre, NO one, even today could touch them.

Typical Manley fans celebrating as if they won something big. They clearly don’t know that this is a warm up game. RIP Manly.

When we talk about dimwitted no one does it better than Australia and the most overrated country on the planet and also rugby league in the UK is only a peripheral sport.

what year were the forward numbers changed around? saw dessie in the no8 thought he was playing prop until they said hes playing lock
@aetd1069 жыл бұрын
+poitty1978 1988 was the last year that I know of where an alternate numbering system was used in Australian league. Lock was 8, 9 and 10 were second rowers, 11 and 13 the props and 12 the hooker. No longer used, and if I understand it was retired for the 1989 season
@guodade22398 жыл бұрын
That’s correct. It led me to confusion when I watched rugby league for the first time - reading a sporting manual led me to think Phil Daley, a specialist prop, was playing “loose forward” (lock) - back in 1986 if my memory serves me right. Between 1989 and 1991, although the numbers were changed, players were still listed by David Middleton’s ‘Rugby League’ annual in the old order of lock, second row, second row, prop, hooker, prop. From 1992, forward packs were listed in the stardard international order prop, hooker, prop, second row, second row, lock.

This may have been the Lions mid-week team, with the obvious exception of the likes of Ford, Platt and Offiah.....but look who Manly were missing. Shearer, O'Connor, Vautin, Cochrane and Daley. And their halfback was a rookie.
