It's amazing how much time was spent on drenching and how little time on natural controls. On our property in NE Vic, the paddocks were divided into about 22 grazing cells. The animals (sheep and goats) get rotated out of a cell after 4-5 days, and re-enter that cell after about 90 days. We have not needed to drench the animals since that system was in place. In addition, for the 6 months a group of cattle follows along about 30 days behind the sheep/goats to clean up parasites and help keep the grass from getting too long. I'm not sure if the cattle will eventually do more harm than good wrt parasites because I think they do share some worms with the small ruminants... we'll see. But even in that past moist not-too-hot summer we haven't had significant worm burdens, so natural controls are effective and I wish more studies/advice are made available for breeders to refine these methods.

I am a vet and when I visit 2 or 3 goat farms on 1 day, I change overalls and boots inbetween properties and bag all gear boots clothes etc afterwards until I get home and can clean. Fortunately I am semi-retired so don't visit many farms on 1 day.
