Quit changing amps every time the weather changes and stop the brand confusion. The same name amp has 100 diff iterations over the years that a lot of ppl won’t even bother with BadCat anymore because you need a history degree in BadCat amps to know what amp you have.

This is the interview we’ve been waiting for! John interviewing Mark, two absolute geniuses of boutique amp design! I couldn’t love Bad Cat more! I’m a proud owner of a 2008 Panther, an amp where excellence meets versatility.

Yes, like the original Hot Cat. That’s an awesome amp. The current version is voiced for the metal guys. It’s cool sounding but it’s not a Hot Cat. They should have called it Metal Cat or something similar. Maybe Steel Panther…..no wait…..

It's hard to believe 25 years has gone by. I remember seeing and hearing my first Bad Cat live at New Orleans Jazz Fest, Bonnie Raitt was playing it and when she hit that first slide lick it was tonal bliss. I still have my Matchless HC 30 head & 2 x12 cab from back around 2000. You are a phenomenal amp builder. Thanks.

Dear BadCat / Mark Sampson, the Black Cat top boost channel is your best design. Please collaborate with Fryette/Friedman to put the full tube preamp of the Black Cat. combined with some IR's for the power amp & cab sound into a pedal. A lot of people want that Black Cat TB sound for recording in a small portable package. The P&W guitarists want that sound, but in stereo. A guitar pedal version of the Black Cat top boost channel, like what Friedman Amplification has done with their amps in the IR-X, IR-D and IR-J pedals would be a massive gift to the music community. I do believe that a majority of people using or desiring the real tube BadCat tones would use such a product in the modern age more than the actual amps. Miking up an amp for recording or on stage is a very rare opportunity now, whereas everyone has a home recording studio or a gig where they can plug in direct. I suppose it also depends on whether or not you want to sell a few tube amps, or a few hundred thousand tube amp pedals. I don't think that this product type "cheapens" the BadCat brand, but it does offer a lot more value to customers who are using BadCat products to make records and play live shows. Thanks for reading.

I have a Cub III and when I play other amps I have or ones that others have, even other handwired boutique amps, other than a few most just don't have that 3D feel and sound that the Cub has. I think it is great John that you decided to bring back the eyes, handwired and EF86 on the Cub. Nothing sounds like an EF86 at breakup. While the other versions were great, these elements ARE Bad Cat. Thank you!

I have a very polite Cub III 15 which I use mainly as a clean/edge of breakup amp, and these sound more RAWK. Nice!

15W or 40W? How to decide which one to get if I only care about tone, not price or volume?
@JonBingham-dy5rk
@JonBingham-dy5rk Ай бұрын
Hi John. Great question. I work for Bad Cat -- my opinion is that the 15w and 40w sound nearly identical at low volumes. As you increase the volume the 40w starts to separate itself because you have more headroom, more low mids, and more punch. The 15w is incredible too, but like most 2 x EL84 powered amps, theres a compression that kicks in sooner than it does with the 40w.
@JohnFoxBass
@JohnFoxBass Ай бұрын
@JonBingham-dy5rk Thanks very much! I should have mentioned that I already have a Lynx head. I was trying to decide between the two Cub V heads. But now I realized that for an extra $200 it seems silly not to go for the combo. Do both versions have the exact same speaker? And what is the power rating of the speaker? Wondering if I can drive that speaker in the 15W combo with the 50W Lynx head. (I use an 8x4 amp/cab switcher.) I certainly don't plan to play super loud, just home studio use, no stage use. If the 15W version is going to put me in more different sonic territory then the Lynx then I might just go for that. (In other words, is there more sonic overlap between the 40W Cub V and the Lynx as compared to the 15W cub?). I currently have a Vox AC15 Hand Wired (EL84), I love how it sounds but the fact that it is missing spring Reverb kills me. So it's going to get replaced with the Cub V.

@@JohnFoxBassthe speaker is the same in both. 60w Bad cat custom Celestion. It’ll handle Lynx perfectly fine!!
