@classicairlineractionfromavion4 күн бұрын
Unfortunately, it wasn't possible to save the aircraft after its arrival at Manston and it was eventually broken up, with the tail unit going to support the KC135 program. When you think of the money that Lufthansa must have spent on trying to restore a Starliner, an aircraft that played a minor role in their fleet, the 707 would have made a much more suitable project.

Hmmmm nobody mentioning the taxiing plane with gorgo(?) hold door open and boarding ladder dragging on runway @1:08 😮🧐🤔
@classicairlineractionfromavion5 күн бұрын
It does look odd, I agree. But it was standard practice, as all cargo aircraft had to go first to the Miami Customs' ramp and then move off to their actual arrival point. The full video has several examples of this. It does look as though the ladder is dragging on the ground but actually it's just clearing it. My recollection of flying on a DC6 is that the Douglas-supplied folding ladder was a bit of a faff to stow, so I guess this arragement was just easier.

Stunningly crisp looking footage for 90s tape. I know it's AI upscaled (occasional erroneous artifacts like the end) but it must have been originally shot on broadcast quality Sony Betacam or something similar. It could pass for tripod mounted prosumer digital HD camcorders of the late 2000s/early 2010s, much less the 90s. Very impressive.
@classicairlineractionfromavion7 күн бұрын
Many thanks for your comments, much appreciated. The footage was shot on a Sony DSR 200p DVCAM camera, tripod mounted. It was shot at 50i and I've used Staxrip to convert to 50p, then Topaz AI, as Staxrip does the conversion better, in my view. Iris2 was the best model they had when I started upscaling, but for videos I've upscaled more recently than Anchorage, I use their Rhea model, creating ProRes422HQ. The conversion comes out at 1920x1440 and so I have repositioned any shots where the original 4:3 framing was tight. I've also edited out any elements where the lateral movement would be too fast when the 50p footage is shown at 60Hz. It takes me about ten days work to create an HD version, but it sounds as though it's all been worthwhile! I'm entirely self-taught, so I'd appeciate any comments you may have on how I'm doing this.
