carpatho rusyns are their own ethnicity ruthenians are ethnic west ukranians so carpatho rusyn =/= ruthenian the words just sound similar

@@shadysheep1984Ruthenian referred to Ukrainians and even Belarusians at one point in time as the lands of Ukraine And Belarus were at one time apart of Rus’ which in turn became Ruthenia White Ruthenia (Belarus) Black/Red Ruthenia (Western and Central Ukraine), the Carpathian Rusyns were also in the Ruthenian camp back then and came to develop their own identity outside of Ukrainian even if the Carpatho Rusyns are seen as such long story short with them all is that Carpatho Rusyns are denied and seen as Ukrainians and in turn all of them the actual Ruthenians (Carpatho-Rusyns, Ukrainians and even Belarusians) are seen as Russians by Moscow

Ruthenians aren't West Ukrainians, they're the ancestors of Ukrainians ! Aargh !

Hahaha in my experience Americans are far more generous with standing ovations than European audiences. I'd say this one wasn't lazy as much as it was near ancient.

Close! They are Byzantine Catholic (Maria will hopefully correct me on if saying Rusyn or Ruthenian is correct.) And, yes, they were from Pennsylvania - St Mary's in Mahanoy City. I am not sure of the exact date, though, and it's not on the album cover. A friend in another group suggested it might be early 80s based on the priest listed with the parish at the time of recording, (eta) and this is supported by our Metropolitan Cantors' Institute's website's commentary that notes first seeing it advertised in 1981.

Growing up, spending every Pascha with family (at least one of whom was on this recording) at my Baba and Didi's meant attending many days of Liturgy at this parish. And getting to hear this beautiful choir was just one of the elements that made the celebration so special, and hands-down my favorite holiday as a child.
