Lol I also imagine Kennit looking like Hook, though not exactly sounding like him

the name "Grag" tho....

A little too close to 'rag' for my taste 😂

@IsFitzHappy or "gag", lol. The name really doesn't suit him.

What is this? I assumed it was a reading of the book? So far Just opinionated hot air.

To hype you up for the end, you can always reread! (Also be careful, there are spoilers for all 16 books in the podcast!)

great discussion on this difficult and fascinating chapter. Fitz's "heart's desire" here reeeeeeally illustrates all the brain & psychic damage he has sustained at this point.....

Regarding the ceremony it strikes me as something more meant to foreshadow fitz’s role as the catalyst rather then anything to do with world-building considering this ceremony is never bought again in of the books after this.

Yes, as much as I love Burrich, nothing displeases me more about this series than his marriage to Molly. It was just too cruel
@IsFitzHappy7 ай бұрын
It makes sense in character, but it's definitely a huge blow for Fitz!
@journalofalongpause8 ай бұрын
I thought Molly's edge of fear was more about how he described exactly what happened in Siltbay when there was no earthly reason for him to know something like that.
@journalofalongpause8 ай бұрын
I'm deeply shocked Burrich wasn't even a possibility for favorite character! :) He was my favorite since the minute he appeared - he was obviously very complicated, so really interesting.

I actually did start at Liveship, not realizing there were other books. And it definitely was confusing that way, lol

im not really into this type of stuff on yt but this popped in my recommended somehow, but you seem dedicated to this i mean 189 podcast episodes with less than 10 views on most of them. Hopefully you find a viewership with this :)

never thought Fitz was upset with his mom - seemed like the memories were just too painful
@IsFitzHappy8 ай бұрын
Yeah, there are some really cool thoughts in the fandom about that. Some think Shrewd might have taken some of Fitz's memories to maintain his 6 Duchies loyalty, repression of those memories, or even his memories of her were put into the girl on a dragon. I think the thought process for that comment from Emma is that the 'upset' part of him was just the pain of feeling abandoned. It's not necessarily an anger at his mother. -Luke

I read it as Bur-rich also.
@IsFitzHappy9 ай бұрын
Yeah, I think Robin Hobb wrote it with the word 'burr' and 'itch' in mind, but we had to stay consistent, so we chose and stuck with one. Between you and me, I still say Bur-rich in my head. --Luke

@@IsFitzHappy I'm sure Margaret did intend for it to be said the way it's read, I find most of her names are that way, often makes sure there is no confusion in the matter. I read all of her books at 15 at night in the garden under candle light while under the influence of psychedelics. very strange part of my life but the books are the only thing from that period that really stand to light. I feel like I lived them for a few months. Burrich was always one of my favourite characters, probably the lost father figure I never had, Verity was also very beloved.
@journalofalongpause9 ай бұрын
I always thought it as Bur-rick but I like the agreed-on pronunciation much better

I was reading the last trilogy a few days ago and as I was listening to this i remembered the part where Tintaglia almost kills Fitz in Kelsingra. Couldn't help but agree with Bendir and the mother to chop that bitch up. Make some sturdy planks, build a ship, a barge or something.

A engaging listen! One fact check- Fitz did know while writing this account (post the Farseer trilogy) that elfbark deadens Skill. Nettle had told him during her trainings in Book 3.
@IsFitzHappy10 ай бұрын
Thanks for tuning in! It's been a few years since we recorded this episode to begin with, so thanks for the correction! Please keep that up as there is a lot to cover in this series for only 2 people to remember as we ramble. And even though Kettle warns him of Elfbark, he has never been wise, as someone is fond of saying :)

I would guess that Mere might be Chuyrda for mom rather than his mom's actual name.
@IsFitzHappy10 ай бұрын
That's a great thought! We had another listener once say that it was close to the French for 'mother', so I think that tracks with what you're thinking.

The part where fitzs take the knife and stabs it into the mantelpiece is simply him being justifiably angry at shrewd and to chade to a certain extent. Because if fitzs was just obeying a skill suggestion why would he stab the mantlepiece instead of just giving the knife to chade.
@julibjoya794410 ай бұрын
I agree that his choice to take the knife and stab it into the mantel was more an act of anger than him obeying a skill suggestion. But I think the skill suggestion theory still has merit. Perhaps when Shrewd tells him that it was his command, that may release Fitz, either from the potential skill suggestion to be loyal to Shrewd, or more likely makes it clear to Fitz that to take something from Shrewd and give it to Chade would not be disloyal, because it was Shrewd's command, thus enabling Fitz to take the knife.

Hi Luke, hi Emma, I just wanted to thank you for your great podcast! I read the realm of the elderlings in it’s entirety once, Farseer and Tawny Man twice and recently started my reread for the entire series. Because I can’t get enough Hobb content, I started your podcast and I really enjoy it! Whenever I finish a book now, I listen through your discussion of that book. I am now listening to your discussion of royal assassin. It’s a great way for me to delve deeper into the books and spend more time in the world. I know that I have quite a lot of episodes to catch up on, so I just wanted to take this opportunity here on this most resent episode of yours to thank you! I hope you continue to enjoy your journey with the reread and the podcast :) have a great week :)
