Umbrella companies need to be banned in UK. This is an extortion to take more money of you aswell as the normal HMRC tax and NI dedications.

Hi there, I just want to check something about this. I'm a UK resident and online tutor. One of my (British) tutees is based in Spain and pays for sessions in GBP by bank transfer. Do I need to declare that as foreign income? Thank you.
@acumenaccountingКүн бұрын
Since you’re a UK resident, your worldwide income is subject to UK tax, regardless of where your tutee is based. However, in this case, as the payment is made in GBP and transferred directly to your UK bank account, it doesn’t necessarily qualify as “foreign income.” Instead, it’s considered part of your self-employment income for your tutoring business. You’ll need to include this income on your Self-Assessment tax return under your self-employment earnings.

Hi i have received 2 penalties, one is for year ending 5th of April 2021 and 2022 in which both years i haven't earned above the threshold. 1) I didnt know that i had to fill in a self assessment 2) I was in a tough position back then struggling with my mental wellbeing. What do you advice me to do
@acumenaccountingАй бұрын
Hello, Please make sure you submit all outstanding tax returns. Once all submitted write to HMRC with all the details and mention your mental wellbeing in most cases they cancel the penalties. Hope this will work.

I got dividend income from US company . The full amount is in the second tax band . For the first tax band I paid 15% to US Authorities so I do not have to pay extra tax in UK .For the second tax band I also paid 15% withholding tax in US but in UK we have 33.75% , so do I have to pay the difference to HMRC. Or can I use full amount of withholding tax in US to see if I own some tax to HMRC.
@acumenaccounting2 ай бұрын
In the UK, you may use the foreign tax credit relief for any withholding tax paid on foreign income, but it typically applies only to offset tax due on that same portion of income, not across bands. Since you received US dividend income that is taxed at different UK rates, here’s how it works: 1. For the first tax band: As you noted, the 15% withholding tax you paid to the US meets the UK requirement, so no additional UK tax is due on that portion. 2. For the second tax band: In the UK, dividend income in this band is taxed at 33.75%. Since you've already paid 15% to the US, you’ll generally need to pay the difference (33.75% - 15% = 18.75%) to HMRC for that portion of income. In other words, the foreign tax credit relief allows you to claim credit for US tax paid, but only up to the UK tax due on each portion of income. You would therefore need to pay the additional 18.75% to cover the UK’s higher tax rate on the income in the second band. Hope this answers your question.

When we have to submit VAT after Threshold or before Threshold. As a resaler on Amazon. If we have not registeret yet.
@acumenaccounting4 ай бұрын
Once you cross the threshold of VAT registration you need to register the business with HMRC for VAT. Once registered you can submit quarterly VAT returns.

I have sent them a letter and they’ve removed the taxes I owed but it seems I filed the form late for two years in a row. Can I send another letter to appeal ? Is it possible they will forgive me a second time ? Thank you.
@acumenaccounting5 ай бұрын
You can send them a letter as far as there is reasonable excuse for the late filling. In some cases they accepted the appeal even its second time.

I have two question: I am working as a lecturer at a university, and my salary is already taxed. However, I also do freelancing and earn around 7 to 8 thousand pounds. Do I need to declare this freelance income? My second question is: I am on a Global Talent Visa with no work restrictions. Will this freelance work affect my working hours?
@acumenaccounting6 ай бұрын
You need to declare your freelancer income to HMRC in your self assessment tax return. Please register yourself with HMRC as self employed. If you freelancing after your work time this shouldn’t be a problem as far no restriction from your employer.

Hi, I have received a gift from my grandmother which is over 100k£. She sold her house in Poland and she transferred the money to my Polish bank account. I want to transfer this money to my UK bank account. Do I have to declare it? or can I just transfer the money and use it straight away? p.s I have declared to Polish HMRC the gift which is tax free Thanks in advance
@acumenaccounting7 ай бұрын
Good morning, If funds transferred from abroad are a gift, then there won’t be any tax implications as HMRC does not view gift transfers as a form of income. Please make sure you have all the paperwork because bank will ask you prof of funds…..etc

I’ve just filled mine in and paid the fine that they sent me and now they’ve sent me another saying I’m 3 months late for not sending it, I know the figure for how much tax I owe from when I was self employed so I’ve obviously filled it in and sent it off but they’ve not sent me or given me a way to pay it.

You can go to gov .uk website and search paying self assessment. You can pay online please make sure you put your UTR no in payment reference.
