I heard this for the first time when I was around 10 years old and it became fixated on my mind. It was in the radio and I didn't hear the name. I've spent almost 20 years looking for this until I found it a couple of years ago. What an amazing piece of art

Does the cellist use his own bowing here or are they notated in the score? Beautiful playing despite the room sound being a little too bright.

3340steve Anner Bylsma has indeed developed is own bowing system for the suites (as put down in his book „Bach, The fencing master“). Note there is no “score”, as no autograph has survived and none of the early copies are 100% reliable. It is legitimate, though, to not accept this as an excuse for the relative freedom that Bylsma grants himself. I’ve come to not care as long as the music is not corrupted. It isn’t here, in my opinion, and it’s great play.
