there's also internal marks on the crankshaft gear you can line up to get at tdc. but you need to be at tdc on the compression stroke, I think your issue here with the pistons hitting the valves is because you were at tdc on the exhaust stroke and you needed to turn the crank too far to realign the gear marks.. if you were on the compression stroke you only would have been a tooth or 2 off.

Please, I would like to know the timing of the pole track for me, the Maxima 1998, the size of the machine is 3000
@squirrelbong4 жыл бұрын
on that final shot of the camshafts and lobes..that looks like it's actually at TDC on the exhaust stroke, not the compression. Is that right?
@squirrelbong4 жыл бұрын
thanks for making these videos. do you remember cam/lobe positions for when the crank is at TDC? I want to check my timing via the lobes before tearing into the timing cover.

there is also a mark or line on the oil pump housing behind crank sprocket that lines up with the keyway on the crank, you can see it in your video

When you did your waterpump, how did the mistake happen?. Did you rotate the motor back 20% and didn't bring it back after install
@TheCgilbert99356 жыл бұрын
Man it takes like 30 to 40 rotations to line those marks up with the color chain links

Hello, I dont know if you can help me. I didn't take my valve covers off to do the timing chain and guides on my 2007 maxima....but now while trying to move the crank to TDC i felt the cams jump several teeth on the chain. Now i'm not quite sure how to get it back in to correct alignment! Please can you give me some direction on what to do? will i have to take the valve covers off? and then what? Im not sure if you are saying to adjust the cams(align cams with timing marks) first and then adjust the crank before putting the sprockets back on?

out of timing. who ever did the procedure most likely didn't put it back into timing. don't continue to crank it until you get it checked again if you already haven't

By the way dude thats not a fuel rail thats on top of the second hose that u said to remove its the engine harness just wanted to clarify
@charlesbosworth28079 жыл бұрын
Those colored links are ONLY to align the chain DURING INSTALLATION. Chances are you will not likely ever see them lined up again without dozens of crank rotations, bringing them back around into place. If you install a new chain, and rotate it, the colored links will end up on different teeth. This DOES NOT mean the anything is wrong, IF they were correct initially.. I see SOOO many problems with these cars, and almost everyone MISSES one simple thing with their "NEW" parts.... WERE THEY OEM ???? If not... GO GET AN OEM REPLACEMENT! ADVANCE AUTO, and AUTOZONE sensors are CRAP on these cars!! Many times, ONLY OEM WILL WORK.

Me to where is your location? Everyone saying I need to change my chain when I just need a water pump but it's so much almost the price of my car I paid 500$-1000 do u think it's really necessary? To do if my water pump went out. Ugh this is so stressful.

I have the same car, and I just took off the valve cover.... I have a problem related to the hose in the back that you broke.... The L-shape bend of the tube broke at the base, connected on the valve cover. I am trying to get that broken piece out of the tube, but it is very brittle.... It can spin in place, but won't budge out... How did you remove it?

Put a compression gauge in hole 1 and turn crank till you see needle flicker then use screw driver. This will assure you are TDC of the compression stroke.
