It is choreographed skiing. While they do it to enhance the event with some panache, it really does end up with some not so great skiing when you watch the individual skiers. It shifts too much attention away from there personal skiing and results in a lot of A framing, missed pole plants, etc. Good skiing requires very specific timing but so does choreographed skiing, a conflict resulting in flawed movements.

The task is synchronized skiing the routine is called the "Cheese Grater" I got to do that with the Swiss team. It is very fun and dangerous if you make a mistake coming out of the race cars back into the cheese grater, don't do it wrong or people get hurt.. We did it with 8 skiers... very dramatic.
