Hello Dr. Portinaro, what are your thoughts on Vertebral body tethering (VBT) surgery? My son Nicolás is 14 with a 44-degree angle. One doctor told us to brace and wait. The other is telling us that he needs VBT or Fusion surgery. Thank you for help, Monica

Buonasera dottore, sono un ragazzo di 34 anni, operato di piede torto congenito bilaterale a 3/4 mesi, con allungamento del tendine dal Professor Milano, a Torino nel 1990. A distanza di così tanti anni, negli ultimi 3/4 anni ho iniziato a soffrire di disturbi all anca, ginocchio e piede dx, quello più critico dei due a suo tempo. Penso sia dovuto tutto ad una postura sbagliata del piede in fase di cammino. Mi chiedevo, esistono soluzioni a questo dolore con cui convivo giornalmente (Fisioterapia, interventi chirurgici)? Ho eseguito una visita baropodometrica, prescritto un plantare, che ho portato per 1 anno, dopo 4/5 mesi la scarpe era totalmente consumata sul lato destro, un piede prono per intenderci, proprio come se non avessi mai indossato in plantare. Pensa sia dovuto al fatto che fosse stato fatto male il plantare o la mia anatomia del piede essendo ormai maturo e sviluppato è difficile da correggere?

Hi Doctor....my baby girl is 6 months old and she has been detected with 2B hip dysplasia...we stay in Netherlands and here the ultrasound appointment we got at 5.5 months old and now pavlik harness will be placed when she is almost 6 months old..I am panicking because I hear it should be early detected within 3 months to treat by pavlik harness..Do you think pavlik harness works when treatments starts at 6 months age????? Its really a thing to life with SB ... Everyone is different and u cant say how life is going :( .... im 39 now and im struggeling with pain(again).... It will never end untill i die i guess ... but im happy thers some tramadol what is making my day.... i feel slowly that my legs dont want anymore ... the bloodlines r heavy and my temperature is in every part of my leg another (heat or icecold together) .... i have almost no feeling anymore on my spineline . And really its going slowly and that really hurts every day ....I have no questions because it cant be answered .... i even cant take a look into the great wide internet, because theres nothing to see ....

What about bowel and bladder issues can anything be done....surgery wise for that????

Hi Sir, My son two year old is limping on his left side.. Recently he fell down and there is no fracture but we identified limping. This limping didn’t go away for 2 weeks now. We didn’t identify limping before that injury but when consulted a paediatrician they said this could be due to hip dysplasia… We measured both legs and there is no difference in length.. there is no pain, he can turn his legs we are observing limping only if he is running and some times while he do brisk walk.. Can we treat this case without surgery?

I have just recently been to the doctors as I have suffered for the last few years with hip pain. They informed me my notes say I was born with dysplasia but didn’t have treatment. I have an X-ray tomorrow but I am so nervous as I have been told normal orthopaedic doctors miss diagnosis very easily. My daughter is 12 years old and recently had flat foot surgery on the left foot(4 months ago). Now we are considering doing the second foot, but the second looks almost normal. I did read in your website "This is way it often happens that the second foot “spontaneously” corrects after the operation on the first one", so we are wondering if she needs surgery on the second foot.
