Not be morbid but do you see any evidence of any graveyards? With the heavily populated areas what did they do with thier dead? Also you mentioned the year of 692 for some temple. How did they know about what year it was. Was it 692 AD. Little confused. Sorry the crowds took away from the spectacle at Chichenitza.Only ruin I have ever been to and 25 years later it still mystifies me...Good Luck! B.
@wanderbeardКүн бұрын
So on the temple in question, there was a stone tablet with the (equivalent date) of 692 AD inscribed on it (in Mayan glyphs). They just converted the Mayan calendar inscription to modern calendar. There's been graveyards that have been uncovered at some of the sites, but not mass graves like we see today. Many families buried their dead within a crypt that was part of the home the family lived in. In the second video from Teotihuacan, the museum had some examples of bodies they'd found, and how they were buried in various ways over the years. "Chicken Pizza" was nice once I got away from the main square area, there was a lot to see in some of the other areas, and the crowds were far smaller. I will have a video on it in the next couple of weeks. :) Thanks! ✌️

Sir I'm from HR. GRACE all you had to do was drive another 100 yards and turn right drive about 150 feet and u would come to a gate ond there you were standing on the airfield,SO telling your viewers you had to walk through Bush to find it is BS no reason to mislead people it will only turn people away from coming to visit it.
@wanderbeardКүн бұрын
It was impossible to drive up there in a car. The road was in such bad shape. I hiked about a kilometer from where I had to leave the car, and walk from there. I bushwhacked through to that end of the airfield. I do mention in the video it looked like there was another building at the far end, but the dirt "road" was impossible to drive.
@sailor1553Күн бұрын
@wanderbeard you come in behind needs store?
@wanderbeardКүн бұрын
Needs to Bannerman Lake Road, then Lady Lake Road. But I had to stop well short of the far end of the airstrip due to the road conditions, and then Google Maps showed that I could cut through the woods to get to the end of the airstrip where I did. This was back in April as well, maybe that road was in better shape in the summer, but I'd already scraped a couple of rocks underneath at that point, and didn't want to risk further damage. Wasn't exactly a planned route, just something I came up with on the fly. Made for a fun adventure. ✌️
@sailor1553Күн бұрын
If you just drove down the main road about 1km then turned left up the hill you would of only had 1/2 km of dirt road to get there that part is always kept in gd shape..BTW where are you from?

Maybe they just like to pick on me, haha, I'm not sure. But happened again twice today. 😄 Palenque was a sweet little spot. Quiet and laid back. Not a lot in the town, but the ruins were next level, especially the nature walk.
@Zefiel99Күн бұрын
@@wanderbeard when I lived there we joked that the town was little more than 'pharmacies and bars', though the church is cute. Other than that it's just a place for many service people from the hotels to live in. Asking for the recording permit isn't personal, they're just shy twice from being burned by people not paying the fee but recording anyway. The $60 fee used to apply to just big "professional" cameras but now it applies to gopros and cells too, so I bet that's why it's being enforced more now.
@wanderbeardКүн бұрын
Ironically, it doesn't apply to cell phones, though I suspect if you were doing a voiceover with one, they might request it then. It's no big deal, I pay the $4, and go about my business, keeping the authorization receipt close at hand haha.

Did you completely skip over Templo de las Inscripciones?! In a way I can understand it, since it's closed and you can't do much more than look at it these days, but you used to be able to go in and look at the tomb, I feel at least Pakal's tomb should've been mentioned hehe
@wanderbeardКүн бұрын
Haha, I actually had some footage of it but the audio was messed up, so I didn't bother to use it. You can see it behind me in a few shots. Would have been cool to see that tomb to be able to compare it to the Red Queen one. ✌️
@Zefiel99Күн бұрын
@@wanderbeard Right now the only place to compare both easily would be in the site museum, which I'm surprised to hear is STILL closed. I went there last year and it was already closed for renovations. When the Tren Maya started construction, there was an influx of cash for renewing the sites that will be on its route. (the Building near the eco walk's start is going to be the new bathrooms, for example. Glad to see they're nearing completition, at least) but I digress. The other good spot to see Pakal's tomb is museo de antropología in CDMX where they made a very good reconstruction. Sadly the times to visit it in person are gone, it was quite the experience, going down the steep, short steps, down and down in a tight passage, until reaching the tomb, it was a little funny because the way they proctected it back then was to bar the entrance to the room the tomb is in, so it looked like a jail cell.
@wanderbeardКүн бұрын
Yes, I've run into a few closed museums along the way. El Cerrito in Queretaro was the same, and another (I forget which at the moment) were all closed. Took Tren Maya from Palenque to Campeche, which was fun. Will be a review of it in next week's video. ✌️

Did the Spanish integrate the Indians into their empire? Only as slave or cheap labor. The Indians were confined to reservations, separated from the Spanish towns. Even their Tlaxcalan allies suffered the same fate and, in exchange for their support to the Spanish, received only a few meager pieces of land. If by "integration" is meant the totalitarian imposition of Spanish culture, yes, the Indians were "integrated"... after they were stripped of their lands and wealth and turned into the subjugated and poorest racial group in Spanish colonial society.
@herrero42702 күн бұрын
¿Did Catholicism integrated the Spaniards with the Indians? Catholic Christianity exterminated a large part of the European population because they practiced Protestant Christianity, or because they practiced another religion. Catholic Christianity also did not lead to the fusion of the French, Italian, German and Belgian colonists with the population of the colonies they had subjected. It was not Catholic Christianity that produced the fusion of the Mongols with the Chinese, Persians, etc. Or of the Arabs with the population of the Middle East, North Africa and part of Europe. Or of the Comanches with other indigenous nations. Or of the Indo-Europeans with the oldest population of Europe. Or of Homo sapiens with the Neanderthals. There are many different factors that produce the fusion of different peoples (and species), and Catholicism has NOTHING to do with it.
@herrero42702 күн бұрын
¿Did the indians were happy under Spanish yoke? "A third obstacle to the population growth in New Spain - perhaps the cruelest of them all- is famine. Like the inhabitants of Hindustan, the American Indians are accustomed to being satisfied with the least amount of food necessary to sustain life; their numbers grow without a necessary increase in the means of subsistence proportional to the growth of the population. " "In 1784, the lack of food caused asthenic illnesses among the poorest class of people. These combined calamities cut down a large number of adults, and especially children; it is estimated that over eight thousand individuals perished in the town and in the mines of Guanajuato." "The effects of famine are the same in almost all the equinoctial regions. In South America, in the province of Nueva Andalucía, I saw villages whose inhabitants were forced by famine to scatter from time to time throughout uncultivated regions and to look for food there among the wild plants. Misionaries use their authority to prevent such dispersals, but to no avail. In the province of Los Pastos, the Indians who lack potatoes, the basis of their diet, sometimes take refuge on the highest ridge of the Cordillera, where they eat the center of the achupalla [Aymara: pineapple], a plant similar to the genus Pitcairnia. For several months of the year, the Otomi of Uruana, on the banks of the Orinoco, swallow clay soil to absorb the gastric and pancreatic juices whose profuse secretion this soil activates; in this way, they assuage the hunger that torments them. On South Sea islands, on fertile soil and in the midst of a vigorous and beautiful natural realm, famine drives the inhabitants to the cruelest form of anthropophagism." Alexander Von Humboldt. "Christian fanaticism especially attacked the Aztec priesthood, exterminating the Teopixqui, or ministers of the divinity, all those who lived in the Teocalli, or god houses, and who were the keepers of local historical, mythological, and astronomical knowledge - for it was the priests who observed the meridian shadow cast by the gnomons and regulated the calendar. The monks ordered the burning of the hieroglyphic paintings, by which knowledge of all sorts was passed on from generation to generation. Deprived of these tools of learning, the people fell into a state of ignorance that was so deep that the missionaries, who were unskilled in the Mexican languages, replaced old ideas with few new ones. While there lovely people asked me why wasn't I a guide, and I realized, why wasn't I? So I went back to Mexico city applied to the National School of Anthopology and History, and certified myself as a guide. I think they would be very much more impactful, having seen that one in this video.
