One day, he can pass it on to his son. It’s just so unique. I will be purchasing more silver coin rings from you very soon. Thanks again, DC

Just started folding dollars and have done about 5. Found that Morgans are harder to work with and you have to anneal more often and longer guessing due to silver content is less than in ASE.
@SouthWindCoinrings6 ай бұрын
Hi Donn, Thanks for the comment. Morgan's are definitely a harder to work with than the American Silver Eagles since Morgan's are 90% silver with a 10% copper alloy. The benefit of the coin silver alloy is that the metal wears much better than pure silver. Good luck with your coin ring making endeavor!
@ValThor-s6z6 ай бұрын
@@SouthWindCoinringsYou're sure right about the silver alloy wearing better. I was going to give up on the Morgans because of the hardness but decided not to. I also noticed while folding the Morgans is that since more pressure is needed when using the Ross pushers the coin edge/lip can become distorted. Then I remembered seeing another coin maker turning the Ross frequently while folding and that worked for me.

Hey do you really need to heat the 999 silver ?
@SouthWindCoinrings8 ай бұрын
Even the 999 silver will harden a little as you work it. It's not as necessary as 90%, coin silver, but it certainly doesn't hurt it! Thanks for the question.

It looked much better when it was all silver looking when you added the black stuff to it , it didn’t look as shiny and new and nice then
@SouthWindCoinrings9 ай бұрын
Hi Kelly, thanks for your comment. The reason for adding the patina is to provide contrast between the background and the details in the foreground. If the ring is made with a high polish finish, the details are lost in the background making them difficult to see. So it's a matter of individual taste. I can make the rings with either patina, or high polish finish. Thanks!!

Quenching the coin in the pickle hardens it. Let it cool on its own. Then pickle it in hot pickle in a crock pot. You will find it stays softer.
@SouthWindCoinrings10 ай бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion Ron. I'll check this out, but since I usually make these rings in front of a live audience it will be a challenge. Letting the ring cool on it's own isn't really practical during a live stream.

Why aren’t you annealing in between your attempts to bend the center out? I’m assuming that’s silver; so I have to assume you’re work hardening it with every operation. I would assume that annealing it in between operations would ensure it’s soft enough to bend. Or am I making an incorrect assumption based on lack of knowledge of this technique? 🤷🏻♀️ P.S., you’re the fastest sander in the West! 😁 P.P.S., 11:20 I did catch that you said you did anneal it at that point; but I would think one would ideally want to do it after every operation bending the coin.
@SouthWindCoinrings10 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment! The reason I’m not annealing more often is because this is .999 fine silver. It’s usually not necessary to anneal after every bend. I just go by feel. Also, we try to work harden the silver so the rings are not so soft when finished.

Oh man...i'm really scared from coins like this. I have ruined the nice tiger and dragon round because the hole was so small and it overstreched and cracked at least. I never tried it again but i changed my style of coinring making complete. For example today i would never try to get the polar bear on the ring but i would cut the whole bear out to make a pendant and from the rest a the ring.
@SouthWindCoinrings10 ай бұрын
Hi Pino, my first attempt was a failure because I wasn't paying close enough attention to the cut edge, and wasn't using standard procedure to stretch the hole. Sometime I make silly errors when working during a live stream.

Hi Pino, I got the coins at www.bgasc.com/product/1-2-oz-silver-rounds-mpm-egyptian-999-fine-fractional-silver-bullion. The price was $18.30 US. I'm not sure if they do international shipping. Even if they do, I think the import duties will kill you! I sent a ring to a guy in Spain and the import duty was around 25 US dollars. So that 45 dollar Ebay cost might not be too out of line IF the seller is located in Germany. Good luck!!

Where can I buy the coins to make that ring?
@SouthWindCoinrings11 ай бұрын
I would recommend that you go to a local coin shop to buy your Morgan. A face to face transaction is always better. Definitely beware of buying on Ebay. While there are legitimate coin dealers on Ebay, the Morgan Dollars and American Silver Eagles are scammers favorites. There are very good fakes of these two coins that can be purchased on Chinese ecommerce sites for around $2.00 US. They are then sold on Ebay for discount prices. See my recent video about being ripped off on an American Silver Eagle.

I don't sell coin rings at the moment because i am still in the learning process. I see you using a blue teflon tape which is apparently thicker and wider as the white tape i use. I want to try the tape you use. So can you please help with the typ of it how thick and wide it is??? Best wishes from düsseldorf germany and sorry for my bad english...

Hi Pino, thankyou so much for following my channel and leaving your comment. The PTFE tape I use is called Blue Monster, and is very popular with coin ring makers here in the states. It comes in widths of 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch and I think there may even be a 1 inch wide version. It is apprx .0045 inches thick (.11mm). Here is a link to where you can buy it here in the USA. www.homedepot.com/p/Blue-Monster-3-4-in-x-1429-in-PTFE-Thread-Seal-Tape-70886/314130476. Good luck on your coin ring making journey!
