Hope youre still around. Mine has a sunshade and i got to the part where you pull the rear deck towards you. I can kinda get the far sides to come to me but the middle of the deck seems to be getting caught on the back of the sunshade housing (the outer edges are bending around it). Any tips?

@jboi6049 I got it, but the rear deck cracked in two places outside of the sunshade slot so it comes off in two pieces now lmao. Gotta be something different about the 2011-12s, idk. Comes off nicely now if i ever gave to get back there again. That, and the cracks being in the very far back, are my only consolation. Everything else was exactly as shown here so thanks for the video and reply.

Would it be possible for you to make a video on how to replace the factory sub?
@jboi60493 ай бұрын
Maybe when if it fails again, I think it would be popular. However, you have everything here you need to change the sub. It's 4 bolts and 1 electrical connector. When you get the deck off, you'll know what to do! 👍

For anyone trying on a 4th gen Avalon (2013 to I believe 2017): on the side panels, pull in the uppermost, front corner to pull that connector out. Then, you should be able to slide up and forward to get them out. The big piece of trim behind the seats has four plastic connectors and is a bit of work to get up. VERY IMPORTANT: before you pull that piece of trim up and over the seats, disconnect the wires to each of the two smaller speakers and the third brake light attached to it. On mine, the wire to the third brake light was wrapped around the speaker on the driver's side of the car. If you don't do this, you'll break the wires. Then the sunshade has four bolts holding it on. Mine were 10mm and simple enough to get to with a simple socket wrench.

It goes up and down correctly, but when it comes to going down completely it makes a horrible noise for a few seconds. Hey man great video, is there only one single problem that causes the sunshade not to work? Mine is up and the button does not do anything. Want to make sure there isn’t something else that causes it before I buy a new motor and try all this.
@jboi60495 ай бұрын
@@jsjkjep61 I’m not aware of any other failure points. If you bought the car like that, there’s a possibility the previous owner pulled the fuse or even snipped the wire to the sunshade. These were the old “solutions” offered before my discovery. You can check the ToyotaNation forums for more information on determining if that’s what you’re dealing with. If it’s not making any sound, the motor could just be dead. You’ll want to verify the wires leading to it are still getting power when the button is pressed. New motors seem hard to come by now, unfortunately, my video almost immediately led to this obscure motor for a very old car becoming sold out everywhere.

If I want to disconnect the sunshade from the R gear but keep it under control with its button how to do that? In other words, I don’t want the sunshade to go down automatically when I put the gear on R but I want it to work with its button only. How can I do that? and thank you for your great videos
@jboi60496 ай бұрын
I believe that should be possible, but electronics is far from my expertise. It probably works like how backup cameras do. The camera taps into the backup lights circuit, when the backup lights turn on, so does your backup camera. Toyota probably did it in a more elegant way than what I described. I would recommend pulling the wiring diagram for your model year or visiting the toyotanation forum and asking.

Hi, to pass my state inspection, I revisited this awesome video. I was working on replacing my third brake light and I broke the tabs that hold the brake light assembly… They are very fragile.. Is this rear deck easy to replace if I needed to? I seen a replacement part for $400 and that’s not something I want to pay for.. So far I have clear scotch tape holding it lol
@jboi60497 ай бұрын
@@samukahtviv1 The only challenge I foresee with replacing the rear deck (cost aside) is having to reroute the seatbelts out of the old deck into the new deck. Everything else should be easy. A sturdier and affordable option over tape would be purchasing a plastic welding kit on Amazon, you’ll want the kind with the heated metal staples. Good luck and I’m happy this video has been useful for you!

Unfortunately I haven't had any luck locating motors. This video has caused them all to sell out. I added a link for a replacement gear in the description. It's certainly worth a shot, if you're not able to get the near gear working in the gearbox, you're no worse off than when you started. Also, no shortage of broken motors on eBay so you can attempt it multiple times if needed.

Where can I go to buy a replacement rear sun shade and motor on a 2014 Toyota Avalon?
@jboi6049 Жыл бұрын
Not sure about 2014 unfortunately. The only sunshade you can buy is from Toyota or eBay and the former will include a motor and the latter may or may not include a working motor. Chances are it's just your sunshade motor that is broken. I would suggest pulling the sunshade out of the car and inspecting the motor for a part number to see if it is available for purchase online.

I'm not familiar with that generation, unfortunately. If you already have the sunshade out of the car, I would suggest inspecting the motor for a part number. There's likely going to be a part number that corresponds to a part from another manufacturer. It may be another Mercedes part. If you do find out, please share here as it might help others.
