This is a great review. Does the device let you crop recorded audio and playback on loop? I want to use to for instrument practice. If the Tascam devices don’t have this, do you know if Zoom devices have the capability? Thank you

Thank you for this review. I enjoyed your walk through. Could you please clarify something for me: Is it possible in manual mode, to use the built-in mics for all the channels? What I want to accomplish, is to record an instrument, and then record another instrument on one of the other channels, while listening to the first recording. But I only want to use the built-in mics.
@TechieViewVideo18 күн бұрын
Hi, No, as i understood it is not possible to record built-in stereo mics to all 4 channels at once but it is possible to make an "overdub" whereas you can play back previously recorded piece and record a new track on one of the channels. You can also try out so-called "studio" app in launcher - this app is available after upgrade to 2.1 firmware. On the other hand, i would recommend you to use portable DAW software something like Garage Band on iOS or iPadOS, it comes free with every new Apple device or if you an Android user you can purchase Cubasis which is an absolutely brilliant piece of software. It is much easier to work with recordings in DAW. Hope it helps. Thanks!

@@TechieViewVideo Thank you for replying. I'm a semi-professional producer, and I've been using ableton for years. But now I'm starting a journey, and I'm opting out of too much gear. If I can do simple layer by layer recordings on this device, that would be amazing. I've been reading their reference manuals, and searching a lot for in depth info about their newest firmware update, but it's not entirely clear to me, if the overdub function fulfills my need. If you have any chance to test it, I would be very grateful. All I want, is to be able to use the built-in mics to record several instruments layer by layer, until I've used all the 6 channels. And then to access each layer as a standalone wav file. The main purpose is to create samples for other producers to mix. So for example, I make a song with guitar, percussion and flute, recorded by the built-in mics, layer by layer. Then I can make a decent mix down to showcase the song, but ultimately the producers can get access to each instrument separately, so they can mix and edit it as they want. It seems this should be possible with the portacapture. And that's why I want to know, if the built-in mics only can record into channel 1-2, or if they can be used as the input for all the channels. Not simultaneously, but just one layer at a time. I fear that the channels are tied to the inputs. Which would be an unnecessary limitation. Maybe that's what the new overdub function is solving. Just can't find accurate information anywhere...

Hi, I understand, i have to look it up to be sure, i'll be back to you with that. By the way, I'm finishing video about 2.1 update it will be posted in couple of days. Also, in settings menu of X6 you can see Input mapping where you can choose which input goes in which channel. Thanks!

Hi, I just uploaded 4 pictures to community post section, i think you can see it there now. In short - you can route / map built-in mics to channel 3 and 4 so you can record built-in mics to channel 1-2 by default or record built-in mics to track 3-4 if you re-route it in input settings menu. Thanks!

What would be the best setting for me when i play my records on technics, mixing with a rodec mx180, the wheel on the side is already pulled way down to minimum but as soon i mix a second track in i have to be very careful or the red lamp starts lighting up(clipping) is there a sort of limiter option to work around that? So if I get a bit high in volume the limiter avoids clipping? Because i want my recordings to be a bit higher in volume, other than mixing the file in Ableton to a higher volume.
@keozzsounds2 ай бұрын
Any idea? :)
@TechieViewVideo2 ай бұрын
Hi. I understand your question but i believe there is no easy solution, the thing is - if you going to use limiter your recorded file could not sound as good as you wanted to because of limiter which will reduce volume on peaks and create a "slightly overblown" effect on your recordings. My solution is to reduce gain on input per channel on your mixer therefore create lower volume on output. Thanks!
@keozzsounds2 ай бұрын
I understand. My first thought was a workaround with limiter and /or compressor. Same way i use some of my Channels on ableton. Just saw the zoom has both on board and I was wondering if I could use that instead to save myself te time to import it into ableton and boost the whole file. Something i find is that my recorded files just by monitoring my channels not to redline are not that impressive in sound. Then again. I’m used to mix and master tracks. Only not of that size 😊 thnx for the answer man. Appreciated

Not as good as the JBL TUNE 510BT, i purchased the JBL Live 460nc and after the first 5-10 minutes of using them i noticed a problem, the sound is ok however they have a design flaw that causes them to ruin the audio. ,notice they have an opening or space in the middle (separation), if there's a little wind it will cause to filtrate and disturb the sound, you'll hear your music + annoying wind as loud as the audio, i did a little test to confirm this was the cause and covered the headphones with my hands and the problem stopped immediately i will return them and get the jbl 510 again.

Well, I guess that was short lived. If you want cassettes, RTM is the only decent tape left that's being made. The only other real option is NOS cassettes. But those are drying up and getting pricey, too. And if you want Type II tape in a cassette, you'll need to blow the dust off your old eBay account and pay dearly. If you know that you'll be using cassettes for years to come, you'd better buy up as much as you can now. In ten years, who knows what's going to be available. Unfortunately, cassettes didn't make the comeback that vinyl did 20 years ago (and hasn't died since). It's very niche and nothing produced/made in France is ever going to be cheap or practically affordable. Just the reality, unfortunately. :(

I am looking to make therapeutic sound videos recording in nature with capturing natural sounds of the environment well as well as recording my instruments. What equipment would I need and what is a good camera compatible with this recorder? Do I need additional microphones or just the camera & recorder? Thanks
@TechieViewVideo4 ай бұрын
Hi, it depends on your budget and how big of "production" you want it to be, you can do it with phone camera for example iPhone or Galaxy and inexpensive audio recorder - something like Zoom H2n, Zoom H1 Essential, Zoom H4 Essential, Zoom Mictrack M2 or OM System LS-P5. You also can use your phone for editing video and audio. if your budget is slightly larger than that you can purchase dedicated video camera and computing device, it could be one of Canon, Sony, Panasonic video capable cameras and any more or less serious Windows / Apple desktop or laptop, you can also use an iPad for editing, regarding audio recorders you can take a look at more expensive ones, like Tascam Portacapture X6, Zoom H6 Black or Zoom F3. Build in microphones are good enough for high quality audio capture but separate microphones could give you more possibilities and even better audio quality specially if you would want to record acoustic instruments. You can also take a look at special audio + video recorders like Zoom Q8n-4K or Zoom Q2n-4K. Regarding software, on PC or Mac i would recommend to use Adobe Premier Pro or Final Cut Pro on iPad or Android Luma Fusion will do the trick flawlessly. Hope it helps. Thanks!
