If it doesn't work put the battery in the charger . pull out the mains plug and bring it back on. the charger gives a short moment a green and red light. at that moment push the button on the battery.

I too, did not have success. My Snapple charger (came with battery and hedger) has not charged. I bought another charger (Jonsered, which was cheaper to assume the problem than paying $170 for battery) and it also didn't charge. So, I tried your method. Here's what I tried. I did as suggested: holding down battery's top button for 5-10 seconds then placed it into wired charger. No luck. The red light appears for about 10 seconds and goes out (with a second of the following 3 green lights). I tried holding in button (as another said) for 2-3 minutes OUTSIDE charger and then did the procedure without success. So, I tried holding button with battery IN Charger for 2-3 minutes, NO success. If I held button in for minutes, every so often the red light shows on the battery and then disappears. I was encouraged by so much success here, but was disappointed with my result. With my multimedia, I looked at the bottom's terminals +/- and tested it at 39.29v on DC. (It's a 54v battery). Suggestions?

It looks like your battery voltage may be too low thus causing the problem. I'm unsure how to safely bring this voltage up but one thing I've done before was to directly connect it's output terminals to another fully charged battery just a few seconds to boost the voltage charge and then retest. However, I can't guarantee this will not take out its circuit board because this depends on the battery.

@@practicalthings - Thanks for responding. Yes, i've seen videos where one cross-wired/wired another working battery to get a trickle (one green advanced block on battery), then complete the charging in the charger. However, not everyone has a spare working battery of the same type for that procedure. There must be another way to achieve this. I have other DeWalt power 20v batteries, but I don't know if they can be wired to the 58v. positive/negative terminals on the dead battery to achieve that aim.

@@jerrymontalbano3222 I figured that may be a problem as I had the same thing. I didn't have a power source for 58v so I wasn't able to test that until I got another battery. Unfortunately the only way is to find some 58v power source or something close to that. Maybe hook up power supplies in series to get there or 9v batteries in series!! I've also used old laptop power supplies for similar purposes.

I have a 12v battery charger I use for car batteries that have alligator clips. Perhaps? How is it that another battery can produce a trickle/small enough charge enough to place in charger, but either it's own charger or one I've mentioned may not be enough and then get it started?

***"*""ATTENTION****** The dealer WILL fix this for free. It is covered by Kia with an extended 15 year warranty from year of model. I found out online and just took the Sorento in, told them these same symptoms and that it should be covered under the extended warranty. They fixed it same day (with appointment).

@@practicalthings it's a known issue by Kia. Kia's had a lot of bugs that Kia covers through extended warranties. I even got a new computer installed at no cost about 6 years ago because I went online again, looked up my symptoms and found others saying it was their computer and Kia covered it. I went in to Kia, told them I found the info, I had the website ready. I went in ready and they didn't argue at all, just fixed it. I do have another issue with the blinkers causing the console/dash and headlights to get really bright then dim quickly while the turn signal is on. Just started. I read there was an extended warranty for that. I spoke to the dealer about that issue as well but in this case, they said it wasn't covered. They were supposed to order the parts to fix it and call me when the parts arrived. They never did. It was going to be $800 just for the parts. It seemed fishy to me for parts alone for the repair to that expensive. I let it go since they never called me back and I'm going to the only other local Kia dealer to talk to them about this issue and tell themthat I read it was possibly covered by Kia since it's another known issue to them. We'll see how that goes.

Now they're up over $170. Not worth the effort when that amount can buy a brand new hedger with warranty and no issues. I was wondering what to do with my old Jonsered/Snapper 58v Battery charger and Hedger. Who'd want to be in condition like myself having that great hedger/charger but the battery is beyond reach of practicality. eBay is full of "tool only ", but the battery wears out before the tools! For a homeowner, I don't have a way to charge the battery enough to get it to the tool's charger to continue it's full charging.
