I'm glad I came upon this video because I'm currently having an issue at work where a woman read an email I sent to a group of us. I guess she read my words through the lens of her perception and now shes accusing me of being aggressive and rude. Now while everyone else in the group works with me directly in person, she doesn't, so all of them understood that she's reading it wrong. The problem is she is head of HR so now who is there to go to sort this out but her underlings, who understandably don't want to make their superior mad. Anyway I'm rambling now. Just wanted to say thank you for showing me how to approach this

@@osayilasisi thank you I will. I'm actually on leave right now because I broke my wrist so that puts that conversation on hold for at least a month but that also gives me time to contemplate what you've said here and approach the situation correctly. I've also sent your video to a few people I know because I feel like this is the kind of stuff the internet was made for, not prank videos so I wish you all the best with this venture and great success

I agree it doesn’t have to be disrespectful but you need to know how your kid thinks and how to best guide them. That’s why when we became of age we just left because most of our parents didn’t explain or teach us. However, today I believe kids are word for word with parents and we’re not wheeling it in. A lot of parents say they want to do better, but they also want to be their kid’s friend. We can be friends when you’re an adult with your own family 😂
@osayilasisiАй бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience. Yes as parents we get to guide and coach, if we are able to respond from a place of wanting to help, not a place of wanting to control or a place of wanting to be liked.

I agree with you, but I feel like your analogy is a bit off. Simone Biles is literally the best gymnast of her time. Maybe any time. That's why she's in a league of her own. Everyday people like you and me and our kids aren't in leagues off our own. A better metaphors would be the gymnasts on her team.

It's no harm to tell your kids a blunt 'no' sometimes, too. They're hear it when they fly the nest from other people, so it helps if they hear it from you, first. It also shows them a clear boundary, which makes kids feel safe. Wrapping kids up in cotton wool doesn't help them, because it doesn't prepare them for life.
@osayilasisi2 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience. I don’t believe in preparing my kids for the harsh world by becoming the harsh world. I believe in speaking with kindness to everyone, especially my children, because we all deserve respect and kindness. When we experience kindness at home, we know that unkindness is unusual - and we can give grace to those who have chosen to be unkind. When one values a relationship, one decides what kind of boundary is important and how best to communicate the boundary so that the other person truly hears and understands. I have found that there are different ways to prepare our children for life: 1. Help them become the kind of people who build the future we want. Or 2. Help them become the kind of people that none of us like to be around. Hope that gives you more clarity.

It's really important that parents take care of themselves so that resenment doesn't build up and they don't reach the point of yelling. Thank you for sharing your insight. It absolutely doesn't work and your child will loose trust and/or respect for you over time.

couldn't agree more. so many people express how scared they were of their parents growing up and didn't talk to them because of this. and ultimately, this is about raising your kids to be better. because they may have even gotten themselves in trouble they don't know how to get out of, so having your parents be a safe space to admit your wrongdoing and then get help too is so much healthier for both sides than constantly keeping up a lie and facade, it is so stressful
@osayilasisi2 ай бұрын
