Very impressive. Feels like I’m watching in fast forward! I rode a couple loops on this trail today in preparation for the October race and that uphill at the end is brutal!

I can here to ask a similar question as my hero Thomas here (I am such a fan of yours). What bikes were you all riding?
@patrickhornacek859310 ай бұрын
We were mostly all on hard tails. I have a titanium hard tail I do most of my bike packing on, but have recently started to do some lighter packed trips on my FS bike. I'm glad you enjoy the videos.

You might consider adding some chapters for each loop! Great video and helpful for me as a new rider

That's a good idea. I'll look into doing that as well as calling them out in the video. Glad to hear the videos are helping you out. It's kind of my way of giving back, as I use so many KZbin video to research trails or plan trips ahead of my travels. Thanks!

That's a fun area! Nice job on your videos, and good luck this weekend. Which software are you using now? It sucks that Virb isn't working like it used to. I've had to play around with stuff, too, but I think it may turn out to be easier and more accurate now.
@patrickhornacek8593 Жыл бұрын
I tested a couple options, but have now settled on Dashware. I have edit the video first and process it again in Dashware, if I want to add the Telemetry overlay. I had been doing that some of the time with VIRB anyhow. Nice because it's freeware and allows 4k video, so no complaints.

I genuinely thought I was going to die at mile 27ish, around 1:14 in your video! From there out I basically had to walk up any hill, and pedal as fast as I can and hope I have enough momentum to carry me over the next one . To see you just fly though this is impressive AF.

I thought it was interesting that you never showed the inside of your camper. It looked like a neat setup.
@patrickhornacek8593 Жыл бұрын
Hi John. The inside is very simple. We just have a fold out memory foam mattress that when folded up can be slide forward to allow our bikes to be mounted in from the back. When the bikes are out and we are staying inside, we can slide the folded mattress to the back and use it like a couch to watch TV in the Winter. I'll try to do a new video showing just the WeeRoll trailer setup inside and out at some point.

What kind of bike you have?
@patrickhornacek8593 Жыл бұрын
I currently ride a converted ti mtb frame on gravel. It's an older mtb geometry, so with longer chain stays and steeper head tube angle. I'm also using Archer Components electronic shifting along with the TPS single speed brakes to house the shifter sending unit. This system works well, and allow me to mix and match wheels and cassettes to save a bit of cash.
@bigmikeberg3458 Жыл бұрын
Sounds good. I’m just getting into gravel bike racing and I have no idea about the bikes. I’m trying to pick an affordable set up but have no clue what is a good bike and don’t want to get a bike that slows me down like a mountain bike

Very nice video congrats! As regards the electronic shifter fault, that is exactly the reason why I will never go electronic when a good old school cabled shifter works perfectly every time if properly maintained by simply keeping it clean and well lubricated. I like watching bike race footage like yours. Another guy who does the same thing as you (Ben Goyette) and who I like watching his videos too, straps an external battery pack to his handlebar to power his camera. In this way he is able to film the whole races and not just part of them. Maybe you should consider doing it too 😉 Peace and good luck for your future races!! 😎
@patrickhornacek8593 Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I do plan to use an external battery pack to capture the entire race going forward. As long as the weather is not too terrible.

@@patrickhornacek8593 Great idea! And may I ask what bike model are you riding and is it a hardtail or a full sus? I noticed a lot of hardtails in this race and even one full rigid bike. You were very good as a single speed rider here!! 💪

Just wondering...how come you don't use an external battery so you can film for hours? They only weigh about 200g. I electrical tape mine to the down tube and can film for about 9 hours then. Super easy on and off, no muss with the frame paint. On my other bike, the battery goes in my top tube bag and the cord snake out a hole in the front of it.
@patrickhornacek8593 Жыл бұрын
Funny you should mention that, as I had a setup ready for Iceman this past Fall, but ended up not using it because of all the rain and water. With my camera, I would have to leave the water proof cover open to connect a USB charge cable. Are you charging through the USB cable in this manner while filming as well?
@williambob111 Жыл бұрын
@@patrickhornacek8593 Yes, it is plugged in and running/charging off the external. I have 2 hero 5's that I use that way. Just got an insta 360 x3 that im gonna do the same but im helmet mounting that cam, the usb will sit in my back jersey pocket.
@patrickhornacek8593 Жыл бұрын
@@williambob111 that's good to know. Do you run it that way in rain and wet conditions, or just in dry conditions? Also, do you leave the battery door in place, and hanging loose, or do you remove it completely? Thanks!
