Thanks Pal. It was a really really bad crossing, frightening at times, but I pushed through for the safety of the family. Sandbar Bay was worth it!

Hi Guys, I think that’s your best video yet … really enjoyed it. I found you because we’ve identified the SO 49 as a possible boat for us in the med in a few years time so was interested to view it but now also enjoying watching your family’s travels. Great adventure for the boys. Your eldest is taking on his dad’s online persona. On the nerdy front would be interested in sailing footage and performance tid bits such as the “7 to 8 knots at 2,100 rpm”. That’s a good cruising pace. Is that with the std 75hp engine? Much Thanks … keep them coming. 😊

Thanks! So the engine is the 55.2kw(hp) version and while I think is was a very good engine, the speed on that day was very fast at such a low engine speed, it could have been due to a number of things such as the new antifoul or the tide in not sure, but normally the revs would be around 2.5rpm. The boat is great, just keep in mind associated costs of marina, and fees like cruising tax’s and for example the charges for the Corinth canal etc, for example in Greece for cruising tax’s a 50ft boat is charged three times the amount a 40ft boat is, I think it’s because most cruisers are smaller and larger ones are normally rentals.

We have sailed over 10nots in relatively light wind, but our model is the performance one, so larger mast/sails and longer keel.

We start our journey from Vnukovo International Airport in the south west of Moscow, and fly with Turkish Airlines to Istanbul International Airport. Our second flight is from Istanbul to Bodrum where we stop over and our ferry is delayed by a day due to bad weather. The next day we ferry over to Kos, Greece, then after a night at Hotel Sonia we find our way back to Nona on the island of Leros. Hope you enjoy!

In this video we take the audacious decision to travel to Russia, in the depth of winter, having to fly via Turkey, due to all other flight routes being closed. We arrive in one piece and have a fantastic time playing in the snow with Family on the build up to Christmas, and of course in the end we drank Eggnog!
