Framing it using the term 'house' money is indicative of a gambling mentality. It's what's pushed to the masses as what investing is. Everything is a calculated risk and as you say it's always your money.
@heatwavetcg22 сағат бұрын
Yep. For me, that $2,000 is net profit to re-invest in my business. But for a lot of "TCG investors" that $2,000 is a bet that paid off. It's exactly like you said - gambling, not investing.

Tax loss harvesting is really for the multi millionaires. If you are going to do it, i think its better to move the money around in a sector than to just sell to lower tax liability. for example if you wanted china exposure and owned baba, you could sell this to buy tencent or jd or something so you can maintain a china position while also lowering tax liability.

I always sold them and bought back right away. But that's not quite the same thing.

I generally agree with the message in this video, but I do think there are edge cases where tax loss harvesting can work. Off the top of my head, I would say the best way to go about it would be after locking in losses on a stock you are down on (but still long term bullish on) you can just sell an ATM put ~45-60 days out, which shouldn't trigger a wash sale. This still gives you exposure to the name while waiting for the wash sale period to pass. Obviously there are risks of early assignment and otherwise, but I think if you are really wanting to avoid taxes in a specific year and you have this specific scenario with one of your stocks it could be a viable strategy.

Its hilarious to me that a random mtg channel i follow after getting back into mtg has said some of the most solid investing musings ive heard in over 30 years. "DUH" is how i feel most of the time when I see certain things. Like when everyone went crazy over "The secret" did everyone forget staying positive is beneficial to ones life? Just things like that. Anywho, agree with alot of what youdl said. Which means you make way too much sense for the general public. Im sorry.

Teensy weensy tiny problem. I still have to unload that one actually-a-dud asset. So instead of eating even more of a hit by reporting it as a sold profit against a yearly bought/sold, I’m going to sell it while reporting what I paid for it to at least get some benefit out of it. The other stuff that has just dipped rather than “the company went bankrupt”? Yes, your advice is correct, I’m holding all the rest of it.

On the outside of this argument, if your tax harvesting or not, good for you. Your outside of the paycheck to paycheck, "lemme run to the payday loan spot real quick" struggle.

I love this product. I think these UB products will age very well even if it looks bad now. I'm sure space marine 2 boosted the demand for the Warhammer commander deck. Any AC game in the future could do the same for this.

If I might make a suggestion, it would be for you to do an in depth video about market supply on 1999-2006 sealed boxes and single foils. The market supply has changed extremely drastically in the last 4 years and no one is covering how LP and NM foils are disappearing from the market from that time period.
@nuvixgaming3 күн бұрын
I think we’ve seen that magic collector boxes don’t all move in tandem. I don’t think we will see the weaker boxes rise in price much. There’s not much incentive for people to buy those boxes at a high price, especially since the alternative is always so much better. We’ve seen it with a lot of mtg “collector” pieces that’s been deadweight for years

I disagree all will be one will go up in price much more longterm...any real expensive card there, any real super chase cards...Just fun flavour, but thats it. Mom on the other hand has something unique and super chase , the alt art praetors.

Interesting analysis as always. Couple things fwiw. Both Phyrexia and Ravnica we're pushed hard by Amazon recently and we should include the rate of inflation in our analysis for a more full analysis. If TCGs are up 10% but core inflation is higher then net it's a different picture.

There is a question of addressable market in NZ. I can't imagine that there would be more than 1% of the population that would be interested in playing card games, let alone MTG. And they would be distributed over both north and south Islands of NZ.

For a product with so many recent sales going below market is poor strategy. On the other hand there are some mtg accessories with no recent sales in the past year because the sellers refuse to lower to post pandemic pricing.

What always cracks me up is how conservative these numbers are. Because of scarcity XY/SM market prices lag quite a bit. Primal Clash is realistically $700+, Roaring Skies $785+, Breakthrough $750+ etc.. BW era is basically impossible to get your hands on at this point.

In my humble experience of selling some expensive and/or desirable singles on Cardmarket in Europe I will say I had the opposite experience, cards are a lot less liquid than people realize. I had desirable cards for sale in mint condition at the lowest price and I struggled to sell them, it took a long time and some didn't sell at all. Now, I have to say that being Italian people don't trust my shipping options (and for a good reason) so that might discourage the buyers and I don't have thousands of feedbacks but still.

Price gaps get all cray cray after a buyout.
@florianbizet21408 күн бұрын
Thank you for saying this. It's especially true for singles, if you factor in shipping costs here in Europe, people are willing to pay more just because you're in the same country. Also the larger inventory you have, the more people accept to pay a premium to get all cards at the same place
@golDroger887 күн бұрын
That only applies to cheap cards. Once you start hitting the 10-20 euros mark then it's more convenient to split the orders. As for the same country logic I would say it's dependant on your country. I'd rather get cards from another country than Italy lol. The unregistered shipping from Germany is cheaper and faster than from my country and cards are usually in better condition too. My experience as a seller is limited but as a buyer I am extremely confident I know what I'm talking about (unfortunately, I wish I could go back and not buy 90% of what I bought of this god forsaken game).

I think your $5 gap example is just a result of the Mass Price rules being set to match "Lowest price without shipping considered" that is the typical auto rule that a store will use.
@AfterSchoolSpecialTCG8 күн бұрын
Exactly, I always use the "Do not include shipping" on my auto-pricer because of this exact reason, the price difference is exactly the difference in shipping price so I'm pretty sure you are correct on this one

That’s how to get reviews as a new seller - undercut. That’s the formula. You did it too right?
@anthonycatania56138 күн бұрын
In a previous video he explains other ways... Like making all your commons 5 cents with 1.99 shipping and the algorithm will choose your cards to fill orders lots of times... There are more ways than undercutting. Now his shipping is like 4.99 because he has the customers.
@MadTownHobby8 күн бұрын
We all made beginner mistakes, yeah.
@golDroger887 күн бұрын
@@anthonycatania5613 Not everyone has store-like volume of cards. Most people are just players that want to get rid of the cards they have, they're not going to have millions of single in stock.
@josephessig60558 күн бұрын
This is exactly how the market sets prices though, you can't infinitely undercut because then demand will increase, thus pushing the price back up. If there's money on the table because the price is too cheap (say 20% under current tcg low) and there is sufficient demand (e.g. the buyer's hihest acceptable price given quantity is some higher number closer to current low) then the price will self-correct just based on that. If I need to sell 100 boxes today, I need to set lower prices to stimulate demand. If I need the money today and need to a box, I might undercut buy $10 instead of $0.01 or matching low. in economics, you could say that the discount rate (value on the future vs. today) might be different between different buyers and sellers so getting the maximum price a week from now might be the same value to me as getting 10% less today. So, I would say this phenomenon is just markets working, and not some mistake by sellers.
@cowboy_henk8 күн бұрын
Yup, this is just one of the mechanisms of price discovery that isn't going away Also seems to be ignoring the cost benefit of time, if your money will do better mobilized elsewhere then you're hamstringing yourself waiting on a couple bucks Ultimately this seems like a fine strategy for some people, especially smaller scale, but I feel like more sellers live and die on cost basis and volume
@GripsCardMarket8 күн бұрын
This is why I like eBay as a platform, much better, because instead of having a SKU or whatever term that would be, and only seeing the cards really under one listing basically on eBay, you can really get creative with your listings and I feel like that leads to the potential for selling things at much higher prices than the alternative like TCG player
@golDroger887 күн бұрын
He's assuming perfect conditions, which is almost never the case, most sellers need the money or are really desperate to pay bills.
