Bet you I have since I'm from North Carolina and grew up in Charlotte. Did you know California stole our nickname? North Carolina was known as "The Golden State" until the California gold rush and Charlotte, NC had the first ever US branch mint since it was actually cheaper and safer to ship the gold out of the country instead of transport it over the roads to Philadelphia.

With Team USA nearly guaranteed to win the Gold Medal, so there's more than just the best players. Part of the mission statement for USA Basketball is to grow the sport. I say they should have put her on the team to capitalize on her popularity. Now, without CC, Women's basketball will be back on the back burner with little no TV Coverage or player interviews.

It isn't always about having absolutely only the 12 best players, especially when the team is practically guaranteed to win the gold. That means you don't need the 12 best players, you can have 1 or 2 that are good but don't have any international experience. In addition, the mandate for Team USA is to grow the sport. This is a missed opportunity to capitalize on Clark's popularity which may or may not be as great in 4 years as it is right now. It would propel women's BB from the back burner where no one really cares about it because its boring and USA is going to win, to the forefront that would give Team USA a lot of media coverage, not only of Clark but the other players as well.

Christian Laettner made the Dream Team with Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Karl Malone, David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, and John Stockton. Possibly, the greatest sports team ever assembled. Clark's qualifications are 10x what Laettner's were.

It isn't all about skills. The USA is almost guaranteed to win the Gold medal anyways. Because the US is so dominant in BB, there will be little to zero coverage because it will be boring. With Clark on the team, there will be a lot more international media coverage and in depth segments not just on Clark but a lot of the other players as well. There's zero risk of putting Clark on the team.
