Just bought a replacement door handle from Yale. Was a bit tricky at first to figure out the adjustable mounts for the existing door but this tutorial really helped and I had it fitted in 5/10mins 👍🏼.

Let me very very very clear, this didn't fit on my upvc doors I spent 6 hours then called a lock Smith it all depends on your mechanism on your door, this is anything but universal and a waste of time. Professional lock Smith looked at the designed and laughed. Frustrated as I wanted the technology style lock but normal upvc doors do not work it also didn't fit on a style of my compersit back door, absolutely trash on design there's the warning

Same problem as Matt R using my Motorola G30. App would just hang and the lock would time out and flash red without going green. Occasionally I heard a single beep which says the two are paired but the app did not show success and the lock did not appear in the app. Tried using a much older Motorola and got a message asking me to confirm transfer of the lock from my other phone! Went back to the G30 and it was there! Dreadful time trying to pair tags, cards and fobs. Eventually found I had more success if I activated Bluetooth on the lock *before* pressing create in the app (i.e. don't wait to be asked). Same approach might also work with phone pairing. Also, after a failed attempt, it had more success if I force-closed the app and cleared cache before trying again. Got it all working eventually, but no idea why Yale hasn't fixed the app after many years of complaints about it.

Guy should have had a wire coat hanger hook, so he could bend it up to reach those keys! Just don't keep your keys near your door, and don't have a keyless latch on the inside.

THE SECRET THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW The only problem I have with this lock is the secret information that does not seem to be written anywhere and you only find out about it when it's installed. When you register your phone, key fob/card to the lock or send a virtual key to someone it uses a 'key credit'. Once you have used your qoata stored in the lock you have to buy more from Yale. This means you cannot register any more phones/fobs/cards without buying the privilege to do so. So let's say over time fobs and cards get lost by your family (just like real keys), they now have no way to get into your property until you pony up more cash (after paying hundreds of pounds for this lock) so you can buy further fobs/cards and register them. Even if you unregister a fob from the lock the credit is not returned to you. This is absolutely disgusting and needs to be exposed.

@@DufftronicOk True, but it costs peanuts. You pay that to pay someone's wages and the cost of materials. But this is the digital age and you don't pay to get your password on various accounts do you? My problem is that they have deliberately built in this software when it was completely unnecessary. There is no need for these locks to communicate with Yale in any way after sale. But they have chosen to not only make you pay for fobs or cards, but the privilege of registering them on your own lock as well making it about double the cost of doing it the old way.

@@shinydarknight01 I paid about a fiver for a key to be cut last October. By paying for the key credits you are paying someone's wages, but instead of hardware (key) you are paying for software (access permission). I think the principle is broadly the same.

@@DufftronicOk It is unnecessary. There is no need for the locks to communicate with yale servers in any way to register a device or fob so you aren't paying anyone's wages its pure profiteering. The locks also cost around £200 considerably more than a traditional lock. The fact that you're defending them leads me to believe you work for them.

I bought one of these locks yesterday and have had a pain in getting it installed which is why I'm looking at this video. I just don't see the issue in Yale protecting their investment and for R&D for future products.

Although the doors are pvc but in sunshine they do tend to slightly warp we always notice this when we lift the handle to activate the lock and there is a slight resistance when engaging lock is this smart lock powerfull enough to engage when the door is slightly out of line

I would recommend that the striker plates on the door are adjusted and that the door hinges are checked to ensure that they have not dropped if there is a difficulty closing or locking the door. Although uPVC doors do expand and contract some adjustments should resolve the initial issue. In regards to the Yale Conexis L1 smart lock it depends on the door lock as to whether the motor will throw the dead bolt when the door handle is thrown up, when the lock is closed shut it will hold only on the latch. I cannot however say 100% that the door will function correctly as we have not seen the door and do not know the extent of the resistance, in these circumstance it might be worth servicing the current door to get it to close with no resistance issue before proceeding with purchasing and attempting to fit the smart handle.

@airscrew1 I appreciate your response. My partner says she would like the bedroom window open whilst we sleep. Anglian windows do sell frames that lock and leave a small gap for ventilation. I was looking for an aftermarket solution that can bolt to existing Windows. As I'll be a asleep whilst the window is open and in the room I believe I would hear if someone was crowbarring the frame at night. Tricky one

@@slipa1 I did find a solution. I have wooden windows, and used ERA Securistay window restrictors. Because the restrictor protrudes into the room, and I use fly screens - I made a 2 x 1 frame for the fly screens to sit on so that the fly screen wouldn't foul the window restrictor. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5S7gGSFft6FZ80

Michael Almond you need to get with the times mate, you usually get a battery warning sign for 24 hours letting you know to pop new batteries in, and alot of them have external connectors to touch a battery on the outside to temporarily power the unit to use the tag or enter coded

Hi Ryan H, Thank you for your enquiry, to clarify would you just like to have a pad handle on the outside of your door instead of a lever or do you want your door lock to have the lever/pad function where people cannot get into your property without using a key (The external handle will operate all of the locking points however in order to re-tract the latch you will need to insert and turn your key). If you can please let us know this we can advise accordingly.

Gary Martin I have one of these on my door and I have never been happier with a lock I don’t loose keys or have to pull out a key chain and find it it’s either the cars in my walled or the FOB on my key chain.

Hi Stephen, The Yale module is an additional attachment that plugs into a slit at the top of the Yale Conexis L1 that is hidden under a cover. The module allows for the Conexis to interface with a Yale smart hub, Alarm, CCTV etc to create a smart home in which everything can be controlled by your phone.

Hi, Both the New Conexis L1 and now obsolete Keyfree can use a “Yale” Or “Z-Wave” module to hook up to an alarm system depending on the alarm type I.E. If Yale and has that ability use the Yale module otherwise the Alarm must be Z wave. I believe there is a way to do that but I think using the app would be better as if you have to go back in straight away you may inadvertently set the alarm off. The yale app allows you to arm the alarm from anywhere in the world so everything can be controlled by your phone - The app will also tell you if the alarm is enabled or disabled so if you got to work and thought is the alarm on or off you can check and then activate if required.

How strong is the bond between the door/window with the wall? Is it as good as cementing?

Hi Ashish, Foam is used to create insulation as it allows the property to breath and will expand and contract - Using concrete would prevent the window/door from expanding and contracting. The idea is that you use fixing bolts into the wall to hold the door or window in place, you then use the foam which creates the bond and insulation and then depending on the gap you would silicone or failing that you may have to use trim to tidy the door if the door is under sized. Thanks for the reply. I've seen the application of foam to fix doors to the walls,and the excess being cut off with a blade. My second question is, a filling done with a cement mix can't be cut with a blade, so wouldn't that make the door frame more secure than foam which can be cut with a blade? I understand anchor fasteners shall also be there but still....?

Hi, foam allows for weather proofing, Expansion and contraction while concrete does not. As foam expands it fills the gaps in while concreate must be applied and therefore will not fill any gaps creating weaknesses, it also will need something putting over the top of it as it will get damp and this can lead to all sorts of issues such as the concreate cracking and retaining the damp while the foam will not. Also doors will naturally try to expand and contrate sing a fixed material such as concrete will damage the door and may possibly crack it if it cannot expand or contract - It may also not function correctly as it could warp. Overall you will have fixing anchors, foam and silicone around the door, fixing anchors on their own should be more then sufficient in holding the door firm.
