I was there as a very much outnumbered Darlo fan, we had been very close to bankruptcy in early 1982 and the local paper had set up a fundraiser to find £50k before the end of the season. Laurie McMenamie brought Southampton to Feethams for a friendly one Sunday around Easter complete with Kevin Keegan, Alan Ball and Mick Shannon in front of a big crowd and Darlo won 5 - 2 thanks to a young David Speedie hatrick. The £50k target was reached and then Sheff Utd came for the last game of the season. It was a great carnival atmosphere in spring sunshine and I well remember some poor Blades fan on crutches being carried to the centre circle by his mates at half time then dumped there 😊 it was another unexpected windfall for Darlo and much appreciated 👍

I was there, a very quiet Darlo fan! Remember it well, fans right round the pitch over the barrier. The official crowd was 12557 but I reckon there was more. A couple of years later we played Boro in the cup, 14000 was the crowd that night and there weren't people around the pitch like that. Never been so pleased to lose a game. It was all good natured, 3 days later we played our last game of the season against Torquay on a Tuesday night, in front of 1283!

Darlo fan here I was 22 years old followed Darlo since I was 9 . I am68 now and still Darlo . Biggest way following ever at Feethams .Stood in corner with Blades fans with scarf , no trouble good craic. I remember them sitting on touchlines before the end and to the best of my memory I am sure the ref blew early. Then came the celebrations.
