When I went to beauty school we learned to wash the beauty sponges with a bar of soap yes, but to sterilize you should mix isopropyl with the soap and then do the cleaning, and then once your done use a spray bottle with isopropyl in it and lightly spray it on all around the sponge.

Easy way to take them off is to soak your hands in very warm water water the water loosens the glue this is why you should try not to put your hands in hot water a lot because it is possible for them to get loose

Another tip is to not get them wet for at least 2 hours afterwards. I normally do them right before bedtime so I don’t have to worry about it. That way they are sealed pretty well.

I’ve been wearing press ons and nail wraps since COVID and I won’t go back to salons except for pedicures. Never thought I would want to do that. Mine stay on and occasionally have to re glue one but that’s fine with me. You are right though, the key is buffing first and pushing cuticles back. Mine stay until I change them and usually it’s because I’m bored with them because I’m addicted to pretty nails lol
