More like the festivals of the ancient levant...this goes back to the festivals of drunkenness that the Egyptians had annually. Jews after all come from Canaan. Not very Biblical, but old habits die hard and this is more of a Talmudic practice, which came after the Babylonian exile and long after even the New Testament.
