This should be removed. It has Indigenous elements that the Order no longer uses or condones. If this is actually 2017 face painting was banned long before this. This video gives a distorted view of the Order of the Arrow.

SPIRITUAL CEREMONIES It is not possible to meaningfully preserve any tradition, rite, ritual or ceremony that is not visible to the human eye, audible to the human ear, and understandable based on personal, direct experience, especially spiritual experiences. https ://www .amazon .com/Black-Elk-Speaks-John-Neihardt/dp/0803283911/ Black Elk Speaks: The Complete Edition - March 1, 2014 by John G. Neihardt Whether appreciated as the poignant tale of a Lakota life, as a history of a Native nation, or as an enduring spiritual testament, Black Elk Speaks is unforgettable. https ://www .amazon .com /Sacred-Pipe-Account-Civilization-American/dp/0806121246/ The Sacred Pipe: Black Elk’s Account of the Seven Rites of the Oglala Sioux (Volume 36) (The Civilization of the American Indian Series) Later Printing Edition by Joseph Epes Brown Black Elk describes and discusses the details and meanings of the seven rites, which were disclosed, one by one, to the Sioux through visions. He takes the reader through the sun dance, the purification rite, the "keeping of the soul," and other rites, showing how the Sioux have come to terms with God and nature and their fellow men through a rare spirit of sacrifice and determination. The wakan Mysteries of the Siouan peoples have been a subject of interest and study by explorers and scholars from the period of earliest contact between whites and Indians in North America, but Black Elk's account is without doubt the most highly developed on this religion and cosmography. Neither Black Elk nor any other Native Indian spiritual leader will reveal what the spiritual leaders of the Sioux and other Native Indian tribes know from their personal, direct experience, which cannot be expressed in any language. http ://www .amazon .com /Art-Magic-Emma-Hardinge-Britten/dp/1463706316 Art Magic, or Mundane, Sub-Mundane and Super-Mundane Spiritism, 1876, editor, Emma Harninge Britten http ://www .spiritarchive .org /uploads/1/2/4/7/12470836/emma_hardinge_britten__-art_magic-_--or_mundane_sub-mundane_and_super-mundane_spiritism_-_1876_-_492pp_miklu_betra_eintak-artmagicormudane00brit_bw.pdf [Download] Art Magic; or, Mundane, Sub-Mundane and Super-Mundane Spiritism, 1876, editor, Emma Harninge Britten A Treatise in Three Parts and Twenty-Three Sections: Descriptive of Art Magic, Spiritism, the Different Orders of Spirits in the Universe Known to Be Related to, or in Communication with Man; Together with Directions for Invoking, Controlling, and Discharging Spirits, and the Uses and Abuses, Dangers and Possibilities of Magical Art. Published by the Author at New York, America, 1876. Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1876, by William Britten, in the Office of the Librarian of Congress at Washington, D.C. Excerpts: Page 166 > “the laying on of hands” … the infusion of the vital forces of magnetic the infusion of the Astral fluid (vital forces) of one organism into another Page 171 > Narcotics … the power of Will … Pages 329-330 > The Red Indians of North America are especially distinguished for guardianship of this character. Before entering upon the duties of leadership to their tribes, their young men retire into the wilderness to fast and pray. For the space of nine days the bravest and best of these wild races have been accustomed thus to await in solemn preparation, the visits of their tutelary spirits, and the direction of their future path in life. The author has conversed with many of the ancient men of these Indian tribes, and they have invariably confirmed the report which all tradition alleges namely; that the spirits who appear to the young men during, or after the probationary days of their long fast, are seldom human, but though they communicate after the fashion of human speech, or else infuse thoughts into the mind by the process of inspiration, their forms are generally those of birds, beasts, or some member of the lower kingdoms. During several of their ceremonial rites at which the author has been present, their “Jokassids” or Prophets have succeeded in summoning around them powerful spirits who could play instruments, shake their lodges, beat drums, and create the wildest clamor of unearthly voices; and in all such scenes the spiritual performers were scarcely ever seen by clairvoyants, or known by mediums, to wear a human form. … but still these children of the forest see them, hear their voices, and hold inspirational communion with them, not as with the spirits of their friends and kindred, whom they also profess to see and converse with, but as tutelary spirits-“spirits of nature”-or as we prefer to call them, Elementaries.

Wtf white culture stealing again wtf
@m0rgothh6 жыл бұрын
tell me how any culture in the world has not "stolen" something from another (assuming that a culture can be stolen anyways). i see people like you who yell about whites being more accepting and tolerant of other cultures, ready to mix with them whenever necessary, also turn around and say on the very same breath that whites culturally appropriate. so let me make the very same argument; you're speaking english, a white invention. you're probably posting this on a computer, right? the first mechanical computer was invented by a white man. you probably have access to modern american healthcare? a white invention. people don't appropriate cultures or "steal" cultures, they appreciate them and absorb them, which is the result of the liberal and globalist policies we've assumed today (and for that matter, hundreds of years ago during colonization). i'm sure what these kids are doing here isn't meant to be offensive and is innocent in simply trying to respect native culture. if you have a problem with that, make a few suggestions to them on how they can appropriately represent your (if you belong to that tribe that is) culture so maybe they don't make the same mistake. whining about cultural appropriation is just bound to get you laughed at by any thinking person with a functioning mind. next time, before you make a comment on "whites appropriating culture," think about how many european inventions you're using in your daily life. thanks.

lmfao almost none of this has anything to do with actual Native American traditions. How about bringing in some real Natives to share and teach about their cultures? without actual Native input it's not authentic or real and much of that is down right offensive.
@ihcf30466 жыл бұрын
I can understand where you are coming from, but when you actually go through the initiation, it makes a lot more sense. It would be better to have native Americans, but the ceremony is largely based on native american lifestyles. When I did it (my personal experience) they clearly stated that they had the blessing of the Occaneechi tribe of NC, which is federally recognized, to do these ceremonies.
@matthewhecht69746 жыл бұрын
ancientoakgrove These ceremonies are based off of the traditions of the Lenne Lenape tribes and are respectful. The regalia worn is not to be offensive, but to be traditionally and historically accurate. In fact, I say it is downright stupid and idiotic to claim that something so true to tradition and history is offensive. The ceremonies are done to also unite brothers in the OA and show brotherhood much like the Lenne Lenape did. Although, I do agree that it would be cooler to have some natives speak, but the Scouts is boy lead and this includes the OA.
