My daughter was taught the waltz in kindergarten. All the kids got dressed up and they waltz to this song.They recommended white dresses for the girls and a suit coat for the boys. It was my daughter’s first date. She went to all dances after the sixth grade. My husband and I always chaperoned. She had so much fun. Thanks for the reminder. She died right after her 16th birthday.

This is so well done... in fact goose bump stuff... I have been a fan of light Viennese music ever since I can remember and religiously watch the New Year's Concert from Vienna every year.. Now I am finding, to my delight, many groups out there reviving this splendid era through dance and costume yet again. Strauss waltzes lift the heart in their grandeur, however this is off set by an equal amount of melancholy which brings the listener back to reality. "Artist's Life"..superbly craft with an an almost doleful intro building up to the beautiful waltz themes. The piece never disappoints especially when it's such a good recording. This sounds like it was the Vienna Philharmonic, maybe under the baton of Willi Boskovsky? Anyway a great video. Thanks for posting.

Please don't call that dance Maxixe. Because it is NOT. Google "Maxixe Dança" in Portuguese to see the real thing. It much more daring than what the fringe event featured.

This waltz by Joseph Strauss is well named Delirien. It keeps running through my mind. I keep coming back to enjoy the beautiful melding of elegant dancing and music. This was the rehearsal so the noisy onlookers were simply cheering the dancers on. However it was also filmed at the actual Ball, where the crowd were much more restrained and is the version I prefer to watch.
